FlyArystan Resumes Direct Flights Between Almaty and Samarkand

Kazakhstan’s low-cost airline FlyArystan celebrated the launch of its inaugural flight FS7879 connecting Almaty and Samarkand, restoring direct air service between the two cities, DKNews.kz reports.

The flight forms part of the airline’s Spring and Autumn 2026 schedule, operating from March 17 to May 30 and from September 1 to October 24, with two weekly departures on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Passengers can enjoy a flight time of under two hours, making it convenient for both business and leisure travel.

Symbolic Ceremony Marks the Flight’s Arrival

At Samarkand International Airport, a small but meaningful ceremony welcomed the first flight. Highlights of the event included:

  • Presentation of a certificate for an airline ticket to the first passenger.
  • Ribbon-cutting attended by the Samarkand city hokimiyat, the Consulate General of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and airport management.
  • Arrival greeted with a traditional water arch.
  • Formal reception for passengers and crew attended by airport representatives, young plane spotters, and other guests.

Samarkand: A Timeless Destination

Samarkand, one of Central Asia’s oldest cities, is celebrated for its architectural and historical heritage. Visitors can explore:

  • Registan Square with its majestic madrasahs.
  • Gur-e-Amir Mausoleum, the resting place of Timur.
  • Shah-i-Zinda architectural complex, a stunning historical necropolis.

The city also enchants with its vibrant bazaars, traditional cuisine, and the unique atmosphere of an ancient Silk Road hub.
