Kazakhstan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Yermek Kosherbayev held a meeting with the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Kazakhstan, Mohammed Al-Ariqi, in Astana on March 24, DKNews.kz reports.

The talks focused on regional developments and the strengthening of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Focus on Middle East security

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the current situation in the Middle East, with particular attention to regional security challenges.

Kazakhstan expressed concern over the rising tensions in the region and reiterated its long-standing position on conflict resolution.

“Y.Kosherbayev expressed concern over the growing tensions in the region and emphasized Kazakhstan’s consistent position in favor of resolving all disputes exclusively through political and diplomatic means based on the principles of international law.”

Strong bilateral ties

The parties highlighted the steady development of relations between Kazakhstan and the UAE, noting the high level of political dialogue.

They also pointed to expanding cooperation across key areas:

  • trade and economic partnership
  • investment projects
  • broader diplomatic engagement

This reflects a growing alignment between the two countries in both regional and global agendas.

Coordination on international platforms

Following the meeting, both sides confirmed their intention to deepen cooperation and maintain coordination within international and regional organizations.

The dialogue signals continued engagement between Astana and Abu Dhabi at a time of increasing geopolitical uncertainty.

Why this matters

The meeting comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, underscoring Kazakhstan’s role as a proponent of diplomatic solutions and balanced foreign policy.

For Kazakhstan, strengthening ties with the UAE is significant for several reasons:

  • diversification of economic partnerships
  • attracting investment from the Gulf region
  • reinforcing its position as a mediator-oriented state
  • expanding cooperation within multilateral frameworks

For the UAE, engagement with Kazakhstan supports broader connectivity and economic cooperation across Central Asia.
