Cyprus Opens First Embassy in Central Asia in Astana

A solemn opening ceremony of the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus was held in Astana as part of the first official visit of President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides to Kazakhstan, DKNews.kz reports.

The event marks an important milestone in the development of bilateral relations between Kazakhstan and Cyprus and signals a new stage of diplomatic engagement between the two countries.

First Cypriot diplomatic mission in Central Asia

The Embassy of Cyprus in Kazakhstan has become Nicosia’s first diplomatic mission in Central Asia.

The opening reflects Kazakhstan’s growing role as a key partner of Cyprus in the region and is expected to create new opportunities for expanding trade, economic and investment cooperation.

The move is also aimed at strengthening political dialogue and facilitating closer ties between Central Asia and the Mediterranean region.

Foreign ministers highlight growing partnership

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Yermek Kosherbayev described Cyprus as an important partner of Kazakhstan within the European Union.

He noted that the opening of the embassy would contribute to deeper political dialogue and broader cooperation between the two countries.

For his part, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus Constantinos Kombos emphasized the significance of establishing Cyprus’s first diplomatic mission in Central Asia and expressed confidence in the continued development of bilateral relations with Kazakhstan.

New opportunities for economic cooperation

The opening of the embassy is expected to support closer interaction between government institutions, businesses and investors.

The diplomatic mission will also facilitate cooperation in areas such as:
