China Mobile and Huawei have received two prestigious GSMA GLOMO Awards at MWC Shanghai 2026 for their joint RAN Intelligence solution, highlighting advances in the use of artificial intelligence for mobile networks, DKNews.kz reports.

The companies were honored in the following categories:

  • Best AI-Powered Network Solution
  • Best Mobile Innovation for Climate Action in Asia

The awards recognize technologies that improve network performance while supporting more efficient and sustainable telecommunications infrastructure.

AI Improves Network Performance

The Best AI-Powered Network Solution award recognizes projects that successfully integrate artificial intelligence into telecommunications networks.

According to the companies, the RAN Intelligence platform helps operators:

  • Increase network performance
  • Improve capacity
  • Reduce energy consumption
  • Lower operating costs
  • Optimize network management

The solution combines intelligent operation and maintenance functions, radio network optimization, energy-saving capabilities, and user experience management within a single platform.

It has already been deployed across China Mobile’s network operations as part of the company's broader AI-driven digital transformation.

Supporting Greener Mobile Networks

The second award, Best Mobile Innovation for Climate Action in Asia, recognizes mobile technologies that help operators expand network capacity while reducing carbon emissions.

As global mobile data traffic and AI services continue to grow rapidly, improving energy efficiency has become an increasingly important priority for telecom operators.

The award highlights solutions that balance network expansion with environmental sustainability.

Advanced AI Technologies at the Core

The RAN Intelligence platform incorporates several advanced AI technologies, including:

  • Digital twin technology
  • The A2A-T agent interaction protocol
  • A multi-model AI architecture

According to Huawei, the platform combines open-source AI models with Huawei’s proprietary models, allowing them to work together and leverage their respective strengths.

This collaborative approach is designed to improve overall AI performance across network operations.

Focus on Reliable Artificial Intelligence

Reliability is another key feature of the solution.

Huawei said the platform includes a carrier-grade AI hallucination mitigation mechanism designed to reduce inaccurate AI-generated outputs and improve the stability of network operations.

The system aims to provide operators with greater confidence when using AI for critical telecommunications tasks.

Large-Scale Deployment Across China

China Mobile and Huawei are already implementing the solution in six Chinese provinces:

  • Guangdong
  • Shanghai
  • Anhui
  • Fujian
  • Jiangsu
  • Henan

The deployment currently covers:

  • 200,000 network sites
  • 1 million cellular base stations
  • More than 2,000 network engineers

The project represents one of the largest AI-enabled radio access network deployments to date.

Early Results Show Operational Benefits

According to Huawei, integrating AI into China Mobile’s network operations has already delivered measurable improvements.

Reported results include:

  • Automatic resolution of low Quality of Experience (QoE) service tickets increased to 15%
  • Additional network-wide energy savings of 5.5%
  • Service delivery accuracy reaching 90%

These improvements demonstrate the potential of AI to enhance operational efficiency while reducing energy consumption.

Huawei Highlights Industry Recognition

Chen Shi, Vice President of Marketing for Huawei's Wireless Network Product Line, welcomed the recognition received at the GSMA GLOMO Awards.

«Huawei is committed to strengthening the foundation of intelligent radio access networks through technological innovation and helping operators improve commercial efficiency. Receiving two GSMA GLOMO Awards is strong recognition of our joint innovations.»

MWC Shanghai Showcases Latest Technologies

MWC Shanghai 2026 was held from June 24 to 26 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC).

During the exhibition, Huawei presented its latest products and solutions while continuing discussions with global operators and industry partners on:

  • 5G-Advanced (5G-A)
  • AI-driven business transformation
  • Next-generation connectivity
  • Computing infrastructure

Why This Matters

Artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming a key component of next-generation telecommunications networks.

The recognition of China Mobile and Huawei’s RAN Intelligence platform reflects a broader industry shift toward AI-powered network management that improves efficiency, reduces operating costs, and supports sustainability goals.

As mobile networks become more complex and demand for AI services continues to grow, intelligent automation is expected to play an increasingly important role in delivering faster, greener, and more reliable connectivity.
