Kazakhstan’s rising triathlon stars delivered one of their strongest international performances of the season, with Diana Yerzhanova claiming gold at the Europe Triathlon Junior Cup in Romania and the national team adding a silver medal in the Mixed Relay, DKNews.kz reports.

The Europe Triathlon Junior Cup Izvorani 2026, held on July 18 in Izvorani, Romania, brought together some of Europe's most promising young athletes. Competitors from 12 countries lined up for the junior women's race, making it one of the most competitive events on the junior calendar.

But when the race reached its decisive moments, it was Kazakhstan's Diana Yerzhanova who proved strongest.

Yerzhanova delivers a winning finish

Yerzhanova crossed the finish line in 35 minutes and 41 seconds, securing the gold medal after an impressive sprint-distance performance. She finished seven seconds ahead of Romania's Tunde Georgiana Crisan, who claimed silver in 35:48.

Italy's Alice Ventre completed the podium with bronze in 35:50.

The incredibly tight finish — just nine seconds separating all three medalists — underlined the intensity of the race and the level of competition.

Kazakhstan dominates the top 10

Yerzhanova's victory was only part of the story.

Kazakhstan demonstrated remarkable squad depth, placing four athletes inside the top 10 at one of Europe's premier junior competitions.

The Kazakh results included:

  • Diana Yerzhanova — 1st (35:41)
  • 5th — Alua Nurmukhamet (36:03)
  • 6th — Kaleriya Schneider (36:07)
  • 9th — Aida Kim (36:13)

Having four athletes finish among the top 10 against a strong international field is another indication that Kazakhstan's junior triathlon program continues to build momentum on the European stage.

Silver follows gold in the Mixed Relay

Kazakhstan's success did not end with the individual races.

On the second day of competition, the quartet of Diana Yerzhanova, Arseniy Shevchenko, Alua Nurmukhamet, and Alkham Murat captured the silver medal in the Mixed Relay, finishing second overall after another strong team performance.

The relay result capped an outstanding weekend for the Kazakh squad and showcased the team's strength across multiple disciplines.

Two medals and growing international ambitions

Team Kazakhstan left the Europe Triathlon Junior Cup Izvorani 2026 with two medals:

  • Gold — Diana Yerzhanova (Junior Women's Individual)
  • Silver — Mixed Relay

Beyond the medals, the competition highlighted the emergence of a talented generation capable of challenging Europe's best.

With Yerzhanova standing on the top step of the podium and several teammates finishing among the event's elite, Kazakhstan's junior triathlon team has once again sent a strong message ahead of the next international competitions.

The latest results reinforce the country's growing reputation in junior triathlon and provide another promising sign for the future of Kazakhstan's endurance sports.
