Kazakhstan has struck gold.
All four members of the national team won medals at the first Central European Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence. Kazakhstan secured one gold, two silver and one bronze medal, DKNews.kz reports.
EUROAI 2026 was held from July 14 to 19 in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. The Kazakh students competed online alongside some of Europe’s strongest teams.
Who Won Gold for Kazakhstan?
Abu Kanabek claimed the gold medal, achieving the best result among the members of the Kazakh team.
Islamnur Khusainov and Dauzhan Beketov won silver medals. Sultanbi Isatay received bronze.
As a result, every student representing Kazakhstan finished the competition with a medal.
What Challenges Did EUROAI Participants Face?
EUROAI is an annual regional Olympiad dedicated to artificial intelligence. Contestants compete individually rather than in teams.
The tasks cover machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing and computer vision. These technologies power modern chatbots, translation services, voice assistants and image-recognition systems.
Programming skills alone are not enough. Participants must analyse data, select the right algorithms and improve their models’ accuracy within a limited time.
Students Built AI Models from Scratch
The main competition lasted two days. During that time, the students developed artificial intelligence models from scratch and solved practical problems.
The format tested more than technical knowledge. Contestants had to analyse complex tasks, find effective solutions and correct errors under intense time pressure.
Kazakhstan’s results demonstrate how the country’s Olympiad movement is expanding into new areas. Students are now competing not only in mathematics and computer science but also in building functional AI models.
Bagdat Mussin Praises the Team’s Success
Bagdat Mussin, head of the Kazakhstan Federation of Sport Programming, said the achievement was the result of systematic support for young talent.
“By performing successfully at EUROAI 2026, our young talents have once again demonstrated that Kazakhstan’s artificial intelligence and competitive programming school can compete at the global level. Such an outstanding result is no coincidence — it reflects systematic efforts to support young talent. I am proud of our students!”

The Next AI Olympiad Will Take Place in Astana
The national team’s next competition will be the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence, or IOAI. The global event will take place in Astana from August 2 to 8, 2026.
Around 500 students from 110 countries are expected to attend. Kazakhstan’s team will compete on home soil against some of the world’s strongest young AI specialists.
Kazakhstan will face a double challenge. The national team will compete for medals, while Astana will host one of the world’s largest international events dedicated to artificial intelligence.
