Singapore will host IOAI 2027. The announcement was made at the closing ceremony of the 3rd International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence in Astana, where Kazakhstan officially passed the hosting rights to the next host country, DKNews.kz reports.
The 4th International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence will bring together some of the world's strongest secondary school students in AI in Singapore in 2027.
Kazakhstan hands IOAI flag to Singapore
The announcement came during the closing ceremony of IOAI 2026 in the capital of Kazakhstan.
Representatives of Kazakhstan formally handed over the official IOAI flag to the Singaporean delegation, symbolically passing responsibility for hosting the next edition of the international competition.
The ceremony marked the end of a week-long Olympiad in Astana and the beginning of preparations for IOAI 2027.
Singapore will become the fourth host of the rapidly expanding international competition.
IOAI expands to more than 100 countries
Despite being established only a few years ago, IOAI has become one of the fastest-growing international Olympiads.
In just three years, its geographical reach has expanded to more than 100 participating countries.
The Olympiad now serves several purposes beyond determining the world's strongest young AI competitors:
- Identifying talented secondary school students in artificial intelligence
- Developing practical AI and research skills
- Connecting students with peers from other countries
- Encouraging international scientific collaboration
- Supporting knowledge exchange between young researchers, mentors and experts

Astana welcomed 106 countries
Kazakhstan became the first Central Asian country to host the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence.
IOAI 2026 was held in Astana from August 2 to 8 and brought together nearly 500 participants, team leaders and jury members from 106 countries.
Throughout the week, students tackled practical challenges across several major areas of artificial intelligence, including machine learning, computer vision and natural language processing.
Participants also competed in the Team Challenge and took part in educational and cultural programs.
Why hosting IOAI mattered for Kazakhstan
IOAI 2026 became the largest international educational event in artificial intelligence ever held in Kazakhstan.
For the country, hosting the competition was about more than bringing hundreds of international participants to Astana. It provided an opportunity to demonstrate Kazakhstan's ability to organize a major global technology and education event.
It also supported the country's broader ambition to strengthen its position in artificial intelligence, digital innovation and young talent development.

Singapore takes over in 2027
The handover now shifts attention to Singapore, which will host the fourth edition of the Olympiad in 2027.
The choice places the next IOAI in one of Asia's major technology and education centers.
Hundreds of talented students, researchers, mentors and experts from around the world are expected to gather again for the competition.
With participation already exceeding 100 countries after only three editions, IOAI is rapidly evolving from a new international competition into a major global platform for young AI talent.
For students, the Olympiad provides a route into an increasingly competitive international AI ecosystem. For participating countries, it offers an opportunity to identify young specialists who could eventually become researchers, engineers, entrepreneurs and technology leaders.
The flag handover in Astana therefore marked more than the conclusion of IOAI 2026. It passed a rapidly growing global AI community from Kazakhstan to Singapore — and opened the next chapter of the Olympiad.
