Up to 37°C in Almaty: Weather Outlook Ahead of Kanye West Concert

Almaty is expected to stay dry this evening. After Ye’s concert was postponed yesterday because of the weather, conditions for August 15 look considerably calmer: temperatures are forecast to reach 35–37°C during the day before easing to around 28°C by the time the show begins, DKNews.kz reports.

Freedom Ticketon lists Kanye West’s concert at Almaty’s Central Stadium for 9:00 p.m. on August 15. A day earlier, the artist said weather conditions were behind the decision to postpone the show.

Almaty could heat up to 37°C during the day

The most uncomfortable part of the day may come several hours before the concert rather than during the show itself.

According to Kazhydromet’s forecast, daytime temperatures in Almaty on August 15 are expected to reach 35–37°C. Skies will be partly cloudy, with no daytime precipitation forecast.

The hourly outlook suggests the heat will peak during the afternoon. Temperatures could reach around 36°C at 3:00 p.m., before falling to roughly 33°C by 6:00 p.m. and 31°C by 7:00 p.m.

That means concertgoers planning to arrive at Central Stadium well in advance could find themselves outside during the hottest part of the day.

Temperatures should ease by showtime

Conditions are expected to change fairly quickly in the evening.

The hourly forecast points to around 29°C at 8:00 p.m., approximately 28°C at 9:00 p.m., and about 26°C by 10:00 p.m. Skies are expected to be clear around the time the concert begins.

That matters after what happened on August 14.

Ye’s concert had originally been scheduled for Friday evening at Central Stadium. The show was then moved to the following day, with Kanye West citing weather conditions.

“Due to weather conditions, today’s concert is being postponed until tomorrow. Health and safety are our priority,” Ye said.

The new date is August 15, while the start time remains unchanged. Ticketon currently lists the concert for 9:00 p.m.

Thunderstorms were in the forecast — but overnight

There is another important detail in Almaty’s August 15 weather outlook.

Kazhydromet had forecast light rain and thunderstorms overnight, along with wind gusts of 15–20 metres per second. No precipitation is expected during the day.

By morning, conditions in the city had already begun to stabilise, with temperatures around 31°C and mostly clear skies. The hourly forecast also shows no rain during the evening.

So after the weather that disrupted the concert a day earlier, the main concern on August 15 may no longer be rain. It could be the heat.

Kazhydromet also issued an air-quality warning for Almaty

Concertgoers have another factor to consider.

Kazhydromet said unfavourable meteorological conditions for air quality are expected in Almaty on August 15. Such conditions can allow pollutants to accumulate closer to ground level.

People are generally advised to limit prolonged outdoor exposure under these conditions, particularly near major roads and other sources of pollution.

Those with respiratory illnesses, cardiovascular conditions or allergies may need to take additional precautions.

For concertgoers, air quality could prove more noticeable than rain: temperatures will approach 37°C during the day, while thousands of people are expected to head towards the same part of the city in the evening.

The weather is giving the concert a second chance

The August 15 forecast looks far more favourable for an evening show than conditions did a day earlier.

Almaty will first have to get through daytime heat of up to 37°C, but by 9:00 p.m. temperatures are expected to be around eight or nine degrees lower.

The latest hourly outlook points to around 28°C and clear skies as the concert gets underway.

According to the latest information on Freedom Ticketon, the show is scheduled for August 15 at 9:00 p.m. at Central Stadium.

If the forecast holds, Ye’s concert should finally get the weather window it missed on August 14: a dry evening, temperatures around 28°C and clear skies.
