The camera takes centre stage. HUAWEI has launched its new Pura90s flagship smartphone series in Kazakhstan, pairing a 200MP telephoto camera with AI-assisted photography and a 6,000mAh battery, DKNews.kz reports.
The company unveiled the new devices in Almaty on August 12. The line-up includes two models — the HUAWEI Pura90s Pro and HUAWEI Pura90s Pro Max — with sales in Kazakhstan beginning on August 14.
Pura90s Pro Max gets a 200MP telephoto camera
Mobile photography is the main focus of the new generation.
The Pura90s Pro Max features a 200MP telephoto camera with an ultra-large sensor designed for shooting distant subjects, portraits, city scenes and fine details that are difficult to capture with a conventional smartphone camera.
For video, the phone supports up to 20x zoom. The telephoto system is also designed to produce more natural-looking portraits, giving users greater flexibility when framing subjects from a distance.
HUAWEI has also placed particular emphasis on colour reproduction.
The smartphone uses the second generation of XMAGE, the company’s imaging technology. According to HUAWEI, the system is designed to reproduce colours more naturally and bring photographs closer to what users see with their own eyes.
AI helps users compose the shot before they take it
One of the more distinctive features of the Pura90s series is AI Composition.
Instead of limiting artificial intelligence to post-processing, the phone analyses a scene while the user is preparing to shoot and provides visual suggestions for a stronger composition.
The feature can recommend a different angle or suggest repositioning the subject within the frame.
That makes it particularly relevant for users who want stronger photos without having to learn traditional photography rules such as framing, balance or the rule of thirds.
A 6,000mAh battery and up to 100W charging
While photography dominated the Almaty presentation, the new series also brings hardware aimed at heavy everyday use.
Both models come with a 6,000mAh battery.
The Pura90s Pro Max also supports 100W HUAWEI SuperCharge wired charging, targeting users who spend much of the day shooting video, taking photos, using navigation or working from their phones.
For a flagship device built heavily around camera use, battery capacity is a significant part of the proposition: extended shooting and high-resolution imaging can quickly become demanding on power.
HUAWEI claims major gains in glass durability
The Pura90s series also features Kunlun Glass with anti-reflective properties.
Based on HUAWEI’s own laboratory testing, the glass is said to reduce reflections by 70%, improve scratch resistance by 16 times and increase impact resistance by 25 times compared with conventional glass.
Those figures come from the company’s internal testing rather than an independent comparative assessment.
HUAWEI has also retained the design-led identity of the Pura line, using bold colours and a distinctive body shape to position the devices as both premium smartphones and lifestyle products.
Pura90s pricing in Kazakhstan starts at KZT 399,990
Guests at the Almaty launch were able to test the new smartphones and try the camera system and other key features first-hand.
The HUAWEI Pura90s Pro and Pura90s Pro Max went on sale in Kazakhstan on August 14 through the Huawei Official Store on Kaspi — one of the country’s largest digital commerce platforms — as well as through HUAWEI’s official retail partners.
Pricing for the series starts at KZT 399,990, roughly positioning the devices in Kazakhstan’s premium smartphone segment.
That puts the Pura90s in direct competition for buyers who increasingly judge flagship phones by their imaging capabilities rather than raw specifications alone.
For HUAWEI, the pitch is clear: a 200MP telephoto camera, XMAGE imaging, AI-assisted composition and a 6,000mAh battery are intended to make photography the defining reason to choose the new Pura90s series.
