Astana has offered a humanitarian resource. Kazakhstan told the UN Security Council that it is ready to use the potential of the Islamic Organization for Food Security to support humanitarian efforts amid the crisis in Gaza and broader instability in the Middle East, DKNews.kz reports.
Kazakhstan’s position was presented by Kairat Umarov, Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to the United Nations, during the UN Security Council’s open debate on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question, held under the presidency of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Astana-Based Organization Could Join Humanitarian Efforts
Kazakhstan reaffirmed its support for humanitarian assistance coordinated by the United Nations and delivered with due regard for the priorities of the Palestinian people.
Umarov also expressed Kazakhstan’s readiness to use the potential of the Islamic Organization for Food Security to support humanitarian efforts in the region.
The organization’s permanent headquarters is located in Astana.
For Kazakhstan, this provides a practical mechanism for contributing to the Middle East humanitarian agenda through an international organization already based in the country.
Kazakhstan Reaffirms Support for the Two-State Solution
On the political track, Kazakhstan reiterated its principled support for a two-state solution based on international law and relevant UN resolutions.
Astana linked the crisis in Gaza to broader regional instability and called for conflicts to be resolved through political and diplomatic means.
Kazakhstan also stressed the interconnected nature of the Palestinian question, the situation in Gaza, and wider tensions across the Middle East.
Strait of Hormuz Security Enters Kazakhstan’s UN Position
A separate part of Umarov’s statement focused on maritime security.
Kazakhstan drew attention to the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, expressed solidarity with the Gulf states, and stressed the need for joint efforts to de-escalate tensions, ensure safe navigation, and maintain regional stability.
Kazakhstan linked these concerns to tensions surrounding Iran and the broader risk of escalation in the Middle East.
Astana therefore addressed two dimensions of the regional crisis at once: the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the security of maritime routes in the Persian Gulf.
60 Speakers Took Part in the Debate
The UN Security Council meeting featured 60 speakers.
Among them was Ramiz Alakbarov, Deputy Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process.
Kazakhstan called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and intensify mediation efforts.
Astana also reaffirmed its readiness to continue contributing constructively to political and diplomatic efforts aimed at maintaining peace and stability in the Middle East.
One of Kazakhstan’s most concrete proposals was to use the capacity of the Islamic Organization for Food Security, whose permanent headquarters is located in Astana, to support humanitarian efforts in the region.
