Mukagali’s voice resonated in Spanish. To mark the poet’s 95th anniversary, Kazakhstan and Chile held a special meeting dedicated to his literary legacy, with his poem devoted to the Chilean people becoming one of the central themes, DKNews.kz reports.

The fifth meeting of the Kazakhstan–Chile Friendship Society was held online by the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Brazil, concurrently accredited to Chile, together with the Friendship Society.

Mukagali’s Work Dedicated to Chile Became a Key Topic

Participants discussed not only Mukagali Makatayev’s place in Kazakh literature, but also a lesser-known aspect of his work for international audiences — his poem dedicated to the people of Chile.

This detail gave the meeting a distinct bilateral dimension: the Kazakh poet’s work became a direct cultural link between Kazakhstan and Chile.

The presentations were delivered in Spanish and focused on philosophical interpretations of Mukagali Makatayev’s literary legacy and the spiritual heritage he left to future generations of the Kazakh people.

The topics sparked an active discussion among participants.

Turkologists and Central Asia Experts Discussed Mukagali’s Legacy

The meeting was attended by Bolat Nussupov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Brazil and concurrently to Chile.

The speakers also included Marcia Castro, Executive Director of the Kazakhstan–Chile Friendship Society; Carmen Sandoval Osorio, presented as a leading Turkologist at the Faculty of Oriental Studies of the National University of Santiago; and Anuar Temirov, a leading Central Asia expert at the National University of Buenos Aires.

The discussion therefore moved beyond a purely cultural format, bringing Mukagali’s works and philosophical ideas into a Spanish-speaking academic context.

Against this backdrop, Mukagali Makatayev’s work dedicated to the Chilean people has taken on renewed significance: decades after it was written, it has become a separate topic of cultural dialogue between representatives of the two countries — now discussed in Spanish.
