Kazakhstan is expanding its consular network in Morocco. The country has opened an Honorary Consulate in Marrakech, one of Morocco’s leading tourism and business centers, where the new office will assist citizens and support direct business contacts, DKNews.kz reports.

The official opening ceremony was attended by Saulekul Sailaukyzy, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Morocco. The new office became Kazakhstan’s second Honorary Consulate in the Kingdom after the existing consulate in Casablanca.

Marrakech Chosen for Its Tourism and Business Role

The choice of Marrakech reflects the city’s importance in Morocco’s economic and tourism landscape.

Saulekul Sailaukyzy stressed that honorary consuls can address practical issues directly on the ground, from assisting entrepreneurs and helping tourists to maintaining prompt communication with local authorities.

For Kazakhstan, this role has become increasingly relevant since the introduction of the visa-free regime with Morocco last year.

According to information presented at the ceremony, the lifting of visa requirements has already contributed to a noticeable increase in mutual travel between citizens of the two countries.

New Consulate Will Work With Business

Yu. Esasi has been appointed Honorary Consul of Kazakhstan in Marrakech.

He expressed readiness to support cooperation between Kazakhstan and Morocco in trade, investment, and business exchanges.

This means the consulate will not be limited to representative functions. One of its practical tasks will be to support direct contacts between companies and business communities in the two countries.

Representatives of chambers of commerce and associations of businesswomen from Kazakhstan and Morocco also attended the opening ceremony.

Kazakhstan Expands Its Presence Beyond Casablanca

Before the opening of the Marrakech office, Kazakhstan’s Honorary Consulate in Morocco operated in Casablanca.

The country’s consular network now covers two major Moroccan centers — Casablanca and Marrakech.

This allows Kazakhstan to work closer to regions with strong tourism and business activity rather than relying solely on diplomatic channels in Rabat.

Government and Business Representatives Attend the Opening

The ceremony brought together leaders of Marrakech’s local executive authorities, members of the Moroccan Parliament, representatives of international organizations, government agencies, and national companies.

They were joined by entrepreneurs and representatives of business associations from Kazakhstan and Morocco.

As mutual travel grows, the practical role of the new office will be measured by concrete tasks: assisting citizens, supporting business contacts, and facilitating Kazakhstan–Morocco initiatives at the local level.

Kazakhstan now has two Honorary Consulates in Morocco — in Casablanca and Marrakech.
