Abai’s works resonated again in Tbilisi. The traditional Abai Readings brought Kazakh citizens living in Georgia together at the monument to the great Kazakh thinker, uniting them around a shared cultural heritage, DKNews.kz reports.
The event was held to mark Abai Day. It was attended by staff of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Georgia and Kazakh citizens residing in the country.
Abai’s Poems and “Words of Edification” Read in Tbilisi
Participants gathered at the monument to Abai Kunanbaiuly, where they recited his poems and excerpts from his “Words of Edification.”
The readings focused on knowledge, work, morality, national unity, and the spiritual development of the individual.
Abai’s Ideas Linked to the Education of Younger Generations
Special attention was paid to the relevance of Abai’s legacy for young people.
His ideas about continuous self-development, honest work, respect for others, responsibility, and the preservation of spiritual values were highlighted as themes that remain relevant today.
For Kazakh citizens living abroad, such gatherings also help maintain a connection with their historical homeland and national cultural tradition through literature in their native language.
Abai Readings Have Become a Tradition in Georgia
The readings at Abai’s monument in Tbilisi are held regularly and serve as a platform for promoting Kazakh literature and culture beyond Kazakhstan.
They also bring together Kazakh citizens living in Georgia and contribute to strengthening cultural and humanitarian ties between Kazakhstan and Georgia.
The monument to Abai was unveiled in Tbilisi in 2022 to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Georgia.
