Kazakh engineers explored the MAZU system. In China, specialists from Kazakhstan’s national space company studied how satellite data, artificial intelligence and meteorological technologies can be used for early warning of emergencies, DKNews.kz reports.
The international educational program was attended by Dmitry Chumachenko and Gulnara Bissenalina, engineers from the Space Systems Department of JSC National Company Kazakhstan Gharysh Sapary. Together with colleagues from other countries, they studied approaches to climate change monitoring, forecasting hazardous natural phenomena and the practical use of satellite information.
FengYun and MAZU demonstrated in practice
One of the key areas of the program was China’s experience with FengYun meteorological satellites.
These satellite systems make it possible to monitor weather processes and climate changes across vast territories, collect information on natural phenomena and use the data for practical applications.
The Kazakh specialists also became familiar with the MAZU intelligent early warning system.
The program went beyond lectures. It included practical sessions, technical workshops, field activities and visits to specialized organizations.
For the engineers, the main value was not simply seeing the technology in a presentation, but understanding how satellite data is turned into a practical tool for monitoring, forecasting and early warning.

Satellite monitoring can cover Kazakhstan’s vast territory
Space-based monitoring is particularly valuable for countries with large territories.
Ground infrastructure cannot always provide equally fast access to information from every remote area. Satellites, by contrast, can monitor extensive regions at once and regularly update data without requiring specialists to be physically present on site.
For Kazakhstan, this applies to several areas at once: natural resources, agricultural land, environmental monitoring and emergency response.
Earth observation technologies can provide information from areas where conventional monitoring would require significant time, travel and extensive infrastructure.
A satellite image alone is not enough. The data must be processed, compared with other information and converted into material that can support decision-making.
That is why training specialists is becoming just as important to the space industry as the spacecraft operating in orbit.
AI connects satellites with early warning systems
The modern space sector is becoming increasingly intertwined with artificial intelligence.
As data volumes grow, analyzing all incoming information manually becomes more difficult. Intelligent systems can process satellite and meteorological data faster and identify changes that require specialists’ attention.
Speed is particularly important for early warning systems.
The earlier a potentially dangerous process is detected and the information is sent for further analysis, the more time relevant agencies have to assess the situation.
This is why the combination of satellites, meteorological technologies, big data and AI is emerging as a distinct applied segment of the space industry.

Cooperation with China goes beyond technology supplies
The training took place as technological cooperation between Kazakhstan and China continues to expand.
In July 2026, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev visited the People’s Republic of China and held talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The two sides agreed to further develop their strategic partnership and continue cooperation in high-technology sectors.
Digitalization, artificial intelligence, environmental monitoring and space technologies are among the interconnected areas of this cooperation.
For Kazakhstan, the value of such partnerships is not limited to access to foreign equipment. Professional exchanges allow engineers to study solutions already in operation, understand how they are built and assess which approaches could be adapted for national needs.
The space industry is no longer just about launching rockets
The understanding of the space sector itself is expanding.
Today, a satellite can be part of a system used to monitor farmland, natural resources, weather or potentially dangerous natural processes. Behind it are ground systems, software, analytics and specialists capable of turning incoming data into useful results.
International training therefore has a practical effect: the expertise gained can be used in the development of Kazakhstan’s Earth observation and satellite monitoring systems.
