Acwa is once again looking toward Kazakhstan. The Saudi energy company is ready to explore participation in promising projects in the country, while the Kazakh side is interested in drawing on its international expertise in renewable energy, DKNews.kz reports.

The prospects for cooperation were discussed by Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Madiyar Menilbekov, and Raad Al-Saadi, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Acwa. The company previously operated under the ACWA Power brand and changed its name to Acwa in January 2026.

Kazakhstan Interested in Acwa’s Expertise for New Energy Projects

The main topic of the talks was the possible expansion of the Saudi company’s involvement in Kazakhstan’s energy sector.

The Kazakh side expressed interest in further developing cooperation with Acwa. Particular emphasis was placed on attracting the company’s international expertise for the implementation of promising energy projects in Kazakhstan.

No specific facilities, capacities, investment volumes or timelines for potential projects have been announced so far. The discussion therefore concerns the development of new areas of cooperation rather than the launch of already agreed construction projects.

Raad Al-Saadi Confirms Interest in Kazakhstan

Acwa also signaled its readiness to continue engaging with the Kazakh market.

Raad Al-Saadi noted the significant potential for further cooperation and expressed the company’s willingness to consider opportunities to participate in promising projects in Kazakhstan.

This continues an existing dialogue. In April 2026, Menilbekov and Al-Saadi discussed joint investment projects in the energy sector, the use of Acwa technologies and the development of sustainable energy in Kazakhstan.

ACWA Power Became Acwa in January 2026

The company changed its name recently. In January 2026, ACWA Power introduced its updated Acwa brand.

Founded in Saudi Arabia in 2004, the company specializes in the construction and operation of power plants and desalination facilities. It also focuses on the energy transition and renewable energy.

For Kazakhstan, Acwa’s international experience has become one of the key points in the talks. The scale of future cooperation, however, will depend on which specific projects the two sides select for further consideration.

Dialogue with Kazakhstan Will Continue

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue the dialogue and further work on promising areas of cooperation.

This was not the first contact between the sides. Kazakhstan and the then-ACWA Power had previously discussed expanding cooperation in renewable energy.

Earlier, we wrote about Kazakhstan’s cooperation with ACWA Power and plans in the renewable energy sector.

The talks are now continuing under the new Acwa brand. The next practical step will be to identify specific energy projects in which the Saudi company may consider participating.
