Yerzhan Kistafin’s diplomatic mission is coming to an end. Before concluding his tenure, Kazakhstan’s ambassador was received separately by President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who linked the results of recent years to a significant strengthening of relations between Astana and Islamabad, DKNews.kz reports.

The meeting with the Prime Minister of Pakistan took place on August 10, while the meeting with the President was held on August 20. The meetings were held in connection with the completion of the diplomatic mission of Yerzhan Kistafin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

Islamabad Highlights Tokayev’s February Visit

Both Zardari and Sharif highly praised the work of the Embassy of Kazakhstan and the results achieved during this period.

The Pakistani leadership placed particular emphasis on the state visit of President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Islamabad in February 2026.

The visit became one of the key events on the bilateral agenda in recent months. Kazakhstan and Pakistan elevated their relations to the level of strategic partnership, while subsequent diplomatic work focused on advancing the agreements reached.

For the outgoing ambassador, this period also became one of the main political outcomes of his mission: the Pakistani side specifically highlighted the state visit among the key achievements of recent years.

Pakistan’s leadership expressed its appreciation to Yerzhan Kistafin for the work carried out during his tenure.

At the same time, the meetings were not limited to farewell formalities. The President and Prime Minister reaffirmed Islamabad’s interest in further expanding bilateral cooperation across all areas of mutual interest.

This means that the completion of the ambassador’s mission does not alter the course declared by the two countries. On the contrary, the future agenda is expected to focus on maintaining contacts and further developing the level of cooperation already achieved.

Practical Work Continues After Leaders’ Visit

Recent months have shown that relations between Kazakhstan and Pakistan extend well beyond diplomatic meetings.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s state visit in February became the central event on the bilateral agenda in 2026. Pakistan’s leadership again singled out the results of that visit during meetings with Kistafin before the conclusion of his assignment in Islamabad.

The next priority for both countries is to continue the course reaffirmed during the August meetings: expanding cooperation and developing areas of mutual interest.
