Voting has begun in London. Polling station No. 408, located at the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, opened on August 23, DKNews.kz reports.
According to the official information from the Embassy of Kazakhstan in the UK, the polling station is open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. local time.
Polling station No. 408 is located inside the Embassy
The overseas polling station is operating directly in the building of Kazakhstan’s Embassy in London.
Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs had earlier included polling station No. 408 in the official list of overseas election commissions.
Kazakh citizens who are permanently or temporarily staying in the United Kingdom and are included on the voter list can cast their ballots there.
Kazakhstan has opened 79 polling stations abroad
Because of time-zone differences, London joined the voting after polling stations in Asia had already opened.
In total, 79 polling stations have been established in 61 countries at Kazakhstan’s diplomatic missions. The overseas voter lists include 11,402 citizens.
Polling stations in Tokyo and Seoul were among the first to open, starting work at 7:00 a.m. local time. Voting then began progressively in other countries as morning arrived in each time zone.
Voting in London will continue until 8:00 p.m.
Polling station No. 408 will remain open until 8:00 p.m. London time.
Because of the time difference, voting in the United Kingdom will continue even as election day in Kazakhstan approaches its end.
On August 23, Kazakhstan is electing deputies to the Kurultai, the country’s new unicameral parliament, for the first time. The election therefore extends far beyond Kazakhstan’s borders, with polling stations operating across Asia, Europe and other parts of the world.
