Kazakhstan is broadening its BRICS agenda.
Ahead of the summit in New Delhi, Astana is promoting cooperation in energy, critical minerals, transport corridors and global water security, DKNews.kz reports.
Kazakhstan’s position was presented by Ambassador to India Azamat Yeskarayev during the diplomatic dialogue BRICS Energy Partnerships for Progress and Prosperity. The event brought together heads of diplomatic missions from BRICS member and partner countries, as well as representatives of India’s expert and academic communities.
Kazakhstan highlights energy and critical minerals
Energy security was one of the central themes of the discussion. Participants exchanged views on traditional and renewable energy, advanced technologies, infrastructure, investment and critical minerals.
The dialogue also focused on strengthening supply-chain resilience, developing new energy and transport corridors, and expanding technological cooperation among BRICS members and partner countries.
Yeskarayev outlined Kazakhstan’s potential in both conventional and renewable energy, as well as in critical minerals. He also highlighted the country’s role in strengthening transport and energy connectivity across Eurasia.
At this stage, the discussion was not about a specific agreement or investment deal. Instead, Kazakhstan used the platform to identify the sectors it wants to advance within the wider BRICS framework.
Water security enters the BRICS energy discussion
The meeting in New Delhi also featured President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s initiative to establish an International Water Organization under the auspices of the United Nations.
Kazakhstan argues that energy, food and water security are closely interconnected. Growing pressure on water resources, the Kazakh side said, requires stronger international coordination.
For Kazakhstan, the water agenda also has a clear regional dimension. Water availability directly affects agriculture, energy production and long-term economic resilience, making international cooperation increasingly relevant for Central Asia.
Focus shifts to the September 12–13 summit
Kazakhstan’s diplomatic activity comes ahead of the BRICS Summit scheduled for September 12–13 in New Delhi.
The dialogue allowed Astana to outline its priorities before the Kazakh delegation joins the summit. These include energy cooperation, critical minerals, investment, transport connectivity and water security.
The summit will show which of these areas receive further political backing within the BRICS agenda and whether they develop into more concrete forms of cooperation.
Kazakhstan has previously expressed its readiness to deepen cooperation with BRICS in trade, investment, energy and sustainable development.
