Kazakhstan and Tajikistan plan to deepen cooperation. Presidents Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Emomali Rahmon discussed expanding bilateral ties across the full spectrum of interstate relations, DKNews.kz reports.

The telephone conversation took place on October 5, with the official announcement released by the Akorda presidential press service. The two leaders also exchanged views on international and regional issues and discussed the schedule of their upcoming meetings.

Tokayev Congratulates Rahmon on His Birthday

The call took place on Emomali Rahmon’s birthday.

Tokayev congratulated the President of Tajikistan and wished him continued success in his state service for the benefit of the Tajik people.

The Kazakh President highlighted Rahmon’s contribution to the establishment of sovereign Tajikistan, maintaining peace and harmony in the country, and supporting its long-term development.

Tokayev also praised the Tajik leader’s role in strengthening the strategic partnership and alliance between Kazakhstan and Tajikistan.

Kazakhstan and Tajikistan Seek Broader Cooperation

Bilateral relations were a central part of the conversation.

The two presidents noted the dynamic development of Kazakhstan-Tajikistan ties and emphasized the importance of further expanding cooperation across the full range of interstate interaction.

Relations between Astana and Dushanbe are based on strategic partnership and alliance, as well as longstanding ties of friendship and mutual support.

Economic cooperation is one of the areas where the two countries have set concrete goals. Kazakhstan and Tajikistan have previously outlined an ambition to increase bilateral trade to $2 billion.

Upcoming Meetings on the Agenda

Tokayev and Rahmon also discussed issues extending beyond bilateral relations.

The two leaders exchanged views on current developments on the international and regional agenda.

They also reviewed the schedule of upcoming meetings. The presidential statement did not specify their dates, venues or formats.

The October 5 conversation therefore continued the regular high-level political dialogue between Astana and Dushanbe, with both sides signaling an intention to maintain the momentum in bilateral cooperation.
