More than $28 billion has been attracted. As Kazakhstan and Oman deepen their economic ties, the Astana International Financial Centre could become one of the platforms connecting Omani capital with projects in Kazakhstan, DKNews.kz reports.
On October 6, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said visited the Astana International Financial Centre. According to the official Akorda statement, AIFC Governor Renat Bekturov briefed the two leaders on the centre’s performance and its potential role in developing investment and economic ties between Kazakhstan and Oman.

AIFC has attracted more than $28 billion
The headline figure shows the scale the financial centre has reached.
Since the AIFC was launched, the total volume of investment attracted to Kazakhstan through the centre has exceeded $28 billion.
More than 6,600 companies from 90 countries have registered with the AIFC.
For Kazakhstan-Oman relations, these figures matter because the two countries are moving beyond diplomatic engagement toward a broader investment agenda.
The AIFC could provide part of the financial and legal infrastructure needed to turn that agenda into transactions and projects.

Oman was shown AIFC’s legal infrastructure
Tokayev and Sultan Haitham were briefed on the distinctive features of the AIFC jurisdiction, which is based on the principles of English common law.
The presentation covered several parts of its institutional infrastructure:
- the Astana Financial Services Authority;
- the AIFC Court;
- the International Arbitration Centre;
- the English common law-based jurisdiction;
- opportunities in Islamic finance.
Together, these institutions are designed to provide investors with a regulatory and legal environment for structuring business and resolving commercial disputes.
For Omani investors, Islamic finance could become a particularly relevant area of cooperation.
Islamic finance could become another bridge
The emphasis on Islamic finance fits into the broader economic relationship now taking shape between Astana and Muscat.
Kazakhstan and Oman are exploring cooperation across investment, energy, transport and logistics, agriculture, financial services, tourism and technology.
The financial centre could complement these sectors by providing instruments for structuring investment.
However, the visit itself does not mean that new AIFC-based Omani investments have already been agreed. The Akorda statement did not announce specific projects, companies or investment amounts resulting directly from the presentation.
The practical test will therefore come later: whether Omani businesses begin using the AIFC to structure investments and joint ventures in Kazakhstan.
Tokayev and Sultan Haitham were shown AIDA
Digital services were another part of the presentation.
The two leaders were introduced to AIDA — AIFC Intelligent Digital Assistant, which provides advisory support around the clock.
The demonstration fits the wider Kazakhstan-Oman agenda, where digitalisation, technology and artificial intelligence are increasingly being discussed alongside traditional sectors such as energy and transport.
It also shows how the AIFC is positioning itself not only as a legal jurisdiction but as a digital financial ecosystem.
AIFC adds another layer to the investment partnership
The visit matters because Kazakhstan and Oman are building several mechanisms for economic cooperation at the same time.
Investment projects, transport links, energy cooperation and access to Omani logistics infrastructure form one part of that architecture. The AIFC could provide another — a financial and legal platform through which future deals can be structured.
The next indicator will be practical rather than diplomatic: registrations of Omani companies, investment transactions and joint projects using the AIFC infrastructure.
Earlier, DKNews.kz examined how Kazakhstan and Oman are linking the Dunga oil project, stronger air connectivity and access to Omani ports with a broader economic partnership. The AIFC visit adds a financial dimension to that strategy, potentially giving future Kazakhstan-Oman projects an established platform for investment and legal support.
