Kazakhstan and Jordan are expanding their cooperation on security and economic development. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held talks with King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein in Astana on November 5, 2026, focusing on trade, investment, technology and regional security, according to the official statement published by Akorda.

The Jordanian monarch arrived in Kazakhstan on an official visit. The meeting comes as the two countries seek to build on agreements reached during reciprocal presidential visits in 2025 and strengthen cooperation on international security challenges, DKNews.kz reports.

One of the central topics was the Aqaba Process, a security dialogue initiative launched by King Abdullah II. Kazakhstan and Jordan are jointly organizing the format's first meeting in Central Asia, with artificial intelligence security among the main issues.

Tokayev calls Jordan a reliable partner in the Arab world

The official visit began with a welcoming ceremony at the Akorda presidential residence.

A formation of helicopters from Kazakhstan's Air Defense Forces flew past the residence carrying the national flags of Kazakhstan and Jordan.

Tokayev and King Abdullah II introduced the members of their delegations, while the presidential orchestra performed the national anthems of both countries.

During the subsequent negotiations, Tokayev emphasized the importance of the relationship between Astana and Amman.

«Jordan is our time-tested and reliable partner in the Arab world. Over the last years, our partnership has gained a new momentum. We are proud of firm political dialogue that we maintain at different levels. Last year was very special in our bilateral relations as we paid reciprocal visits. The Joint Statement that we adopted and many documents signed between our ministries, agencies and businesses made powerful boost to our multifaceted cooperation,» the President said.

The statement referred to the reciprocal visits in 2025, when Tokayev traveled to Jordan in February and King Abdullah II visited Kazakhstan in August.

Those meetings produced agreements intended to strengthen political dialogue and expand cooperation between government agencies and businesses.

Trade, investment and tourism remain key priorities

Tokayev stressed that Kazakhstan attaches particular importance to implementing agreements already reached between the two countries.

Economic cooperation remains a central part of the bilateral agenda, alongside cultural and humanitarian exchanges.

The discussions highlighted opportunities to develop cooperation in several areas:

  • Trade and investment between Kazakhstan and Jordan.
  • Technology and innovation.
  • Tourism and increased travel between the two countries.
  • Academic cooperation and scientific exchanges.
  • Cultural and humanitarian partnerships.

For Kazakhstan, expanding cooperation with Jordan offers opportunities to develop commercial relationships with a Middle Eastern partner while strengthening connections between educational and research institutions.

However, Akorda's announcement did not specify new investment amounts, trade contracts or additional economic agreements signed during these talks.

King Abdullah II highlights trade, technology and defense

King Abdullah II thanked Tokayev for the reception and emphasized the longstanding relationship between the two countries.

The Jordanian monarch also highlighted their shared interest in promoting peace and stability.

«As you mentioned, last year’s exchange of visits provided important momentum to our bilateral relations. And we look forward to building on that to advance cooperation in key sectors such as trade, investment, tourism, technology, and defense,» the King of Jordan stated.

His remarks indicate that Jordan sees opportunities to broaden cooperation beyond traditional diplomatic contacts.

Defense and technology were among the areas specifically identified by the Jordanian side, alongside economic and tourism partnerships.

The discussions did not include publicly announced details of new defense contracts or technology investment commitments.

Kazakhstan and Jordan bring the Aqaba Process to Central Asia

Regional security was another major topic of the negotiations.

Tokayev highlighted the Aqaba Process, an international initiative launched by King Abdullah II more than a decade ago to strengthen cooperation on security challenges.

The two countries are preparing to jointly host the first meeting of this format in Central Asia.

The session will focus on security in the field of artificial intelligence, reflecting the growing importance of emerging technologies in international security discussions.

Tokayev emphasized the significance of Kazakhstan's participation in the initiative and expressed appreciation for Jordan's role in international peace and security efforts.

«Under your visionary leadership, the Kingdom has earned wide respect as an indispensable voice of balance and steadfast guardian of peace in the Middle East and beyond. In that vein, Kazakhstan highly values the Aqaba process, launched by Your Majesty more than a decade ago. It is a great honor to co-host first-ever meeting of this format in Central Asia. The theme of the session on Security in the field of Artificial Intelligence is particularly timely. I believe it will bring a valuable perspective from our region and add new strength to our joint efforts for peace and security,» the President said.

The planned meeting creates an opportunity for Kazakhstan to participate more actively in discussions connecting technological development with regional and international security.

Artificial intelligence becomes part of the security agenda

The decision to focus on artificial intelligence security adds a technological dimension to the Kazakhstan–Jordan partnership.

AI technologies are increasingly relevant to cybersecurity, information analysis and the management of complex security risks.

The Aqaba Process meeting is intended to provide a platform for dialogue on these challenges, bringing a Central Asian perspective to an established international security initiative.

For Kazakhstan, participation also reflects its interest in expanding international cooperation on the responsible development and use of emerging technologies.

The official statement identifies the meeting's theme but does not announce specific joint AI security projects or technical agreements.

Jordan seeks closer cooperation against terrorism and extremism

King Abdullah II expressed appreciation for Kazakhstan's role in jointly organizing the next round of Aqaba Process meetings.

He described the initiative as part of the two countries' shared commitment to addressing regional and global security challenges.

The King also reaffirmed Jordan's interest in expanding cooperation with Kazakhstan on regional security and efforts to counter terrorism and extremism.

These issues form part of a broader diplomatic relationship in which both countries emphasize dialogue and cooperation through international platforms.

According to Akorda, the leaders also noted the similarity of their approaches to a number of current international and regional issues.

What the talks mean for Kazakhstan–Jordan relations

The November 5 meeting builds on the diplomatic momentum established during the leaders' reciprocal visits in 2025.

The immediate priority is the practical implementation of existing agreements, particularly in trade, investment, tourism, technology and educational cooperation.

At the same time, the upcoming Aqaba Process meeting gives the relationship an additional international security dimension.

For Kazakhstan, cooperation with Jordan combines opportunities for economic engagement in the Middle East with participation in discussions on terrorism, extremism and emerging technological risks.

The next measure of progress will be the implementation of bilateral agreements and the outcomes of the planned security dialogue.

Earlier, we reported on Kazakhstan and Jordan's discussions on direct flights, investment and trade cooperation. Those consultations also focused on turning the political agreements reached during the 2025 presidential visits into practical economic projects.
