Kazakhstan has presented its new Order of Al-Farabi to King Abdullah II of Jordan. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev bestowed the distinction on the Jordanian monarch in Astana on November 5, 2026, recognizing his contribution to strengthening friendship between the two countries, according to the official statement published by Akorda.
The ceremony also marked an exchange of state honors. King Abdullah II presented Tokayev with the Order of Al-Hussein bin Ali, Jordan's highest state decoration, DKNews.kz reports.
The occasion carried particular significance: according to the Kazakh President, King Abdullah II became the first recipient of the Order of Al-Farabi.
Tokayev praises Jordan's role in international security
Speaking at the ceremony, Tokayev described the King's visit as a demonstration of the growing strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and Jordan.
He emphasized that regular contacts between the two leaders had created opportunities to expand cooperation and advance shared priorities.
«We highly value our multifaceted cooperation with Jordan, and here in my country, we regard you as an outstanding and visionary leader who enjoys profound respect all over the world. Under your strong and wise leadership, Jordan has flourished as a beacon of peace, stability, dignity, and fairness, as well as a dynamic hub for innovation and sustainable growth. On the world stage, Your Majesty’s voice remains one of the most vocal, respected, and influential in promoting international dialogue. The Aqaba Process is yet another reflection of Your Majesty’s unwavering commitment to fostering international security. And we are proud and honored to co-host the next session of the Aqaba Process in Astana tomorrow,» the Head of State said.
The reference to the Aqaba Process highlighted a practical dimension of the partnership. Kazakhstan and Jordan are preparing to jointly host the next session of the international security dialogue in Astana on November 6.
The initiative, launched by King Abdullah II, brings together international partners to discuss security challenges and strengthen cooperation.

Why Kazakhstan and Jordan are strengthening their partnership
Tokayev noted that reciprocal presidential visits in 2025 had provided fresh momentum for bilateral relations.
He said the two countries were expanding cooperation into promising sectors and creating opportunities to connect their economies and institutions.
«Today, our partnership is actively expanding into new, highly promising sectors, unlocking the vast potential of both our regions. Our reciprocal visits last year gave strong impetus for this cause. I’m firmly committed to keep this positive momentum and elevate our partnership to even greater heights,» the President said.
The statement reflects Kazakhstan's intention to maintain high-level political dialogue while developing practical cooperation with Jordan.
For Astana, the relationship also provides a platform for engagement with a Middle Eastern partner on regional security and international diplomacy.
King Abdullah II becomes the first recipient of the Order of Al-Farabi
One of the central moments of the ceremony was Tokayev's presentation of the Order of Al-Farabi.
The Kazakh President emphasized the historical and cultural significance of the decoration, which bears the name of the philosopher Abu Nasr Al-Farabi.
«In recognition of your enormously important contribution to fostering the strong bonds of friendship between Kazakhstan and Jordan, I’m honored to present you with the Al-Farabi State Award. This high Order proudly bears the name of the great philosopher of the East. The legacy of Al-Farabi continues to inspire and serve as a road guider for many generations, and his historic role for modern politics, science, and literature cannot be overstated. He has special place in the hearts and minds of the entire Arab world. His timeless ideas on wisdom, harmony, and unity continue to connect our cultures. We deeply appreciate your tireless efforts to champion these noble values. It is very symbolic that Your Majesty is the first person to receive this distinguished award. I believe it is a historic event. May this high decoration serve as a sign of Kazakhstan’s genuine respect and personal esteem to you,» Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.
The President's remarks connected the award with Al-Farabi's intellectual legacy and the cultural ties between Central Asia and the Arab world.
By naming the decoration after the philosopher, Kazakhstan has given the honor a symbolic meaning that extends beyond bilateral diplomacy.
The selection of King Abdullah II as its first recipient underscores the importance Kazakhstan attaches to its relationship with Jordan.

King Abdullah II presents Tokayev with Jordan's highest honor
The ceremony was reciprocal.
King Abdullah II awarded President Tokayev the Order of Al-Hussein bin Ali, the highest state decoration of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
In his response, Tokayev described the award as recognition of the friendship and mutual respect between the two countries.
«It is a great honor for me to receive the highest decoration of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. This Order bears the name of the founder of your noble dynasty. His legacy, rooted in honor, faith and devotion to his people, continues to inspire generations. I regard this high distinction not only as recognition of my personal contribution, but above all as a testament to the strong friendship and mutual respect between our peoples. It is a clear recognition of the close and steadily strengthening ties between Kazakhstan and Jordan. I greatly value your personal commitment to further advancing bilateral cooperation,» the Head of State said.
The exchange of decorations highlighted the personal diplomatic relationship between the two leaders and the importance both governments place on continued cooperation.
What is the Order of Al-Hussein bin Ali?
The Order of Al-Hussein bin Ali was established in 1949 by King Abdullah I bin Al-Hussein of Jordan.
It was named in honor of his father, Sharif Hussein bin Ali of Mecca, who lived from 1853 to 1931 and was a prominent figure of the Hashemite dynasty.
The decoration is regarded as a special expression of respect from the Jordanian monarch.
Its presentation to Tokayev reflects the high level of political trust between Kazakhstan and Jordan, as emphasized in the official presidential statement.
Astana prepares to host the Aqaba Process
The exchange of state honors took place ahead of an international security meeting in Kazakhstan's capital.
Tokayev confirmed that Astana would co-host the next session of the Aqaba Process on November 6.
The meeting represents an additional area of cooperation between Kazakhstan and Jordan, complementing their diplomatic and economic relationship.
For Kazakhstan, hosting the event creates an opportunity to participate in international discussions on security challenges and contribute a Central Asian perspective.
The initiative also demonstrates how bilateral political ties can support cooperation through broader international formats.

What the exchange of honors means for Kazakhstan and Jordan
The November 5 ceremony followed a period of intensified diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
Reciprocal presidential visits in 2025 helped establish a framework for expanding cooperation, while the latest meeting reinforced the commitment to maintaining that momentum.
The two state decorations carry different historical meanings but served a common diplomatic purpose: recognizing the relationship between the leaders and their countries.
King Abdullah II's receipt of the first Order of Al-Farabi also gave the ceremony a distinctive place in Kazakhstan's state honors.
The next stage of cooperation will include the Aqaba Process meeting in Astana and continued efforts to develop the bilateral agenda.
Earlier, we reported on Kazakhstan and Jordan's plans to expand trade, investment, tourism and direct air connectivity. Those discussions followed the leaders' reciprocal visits and focused on translating political agreements into practical cooperation.
