Kazakhstan and Malaysia: 30 years of partnership

Kazakhstan Ambassador to Malaysia Bulat Sugurbayev had a meeting with Deputy Foreign Minister of Malaysia Dato’ Kamarudin Jaffar and discussed the Kazakhstan-Malaysia comprehensive partnership marking the 30th Anniversary this year, Delovoy Kazakhstan reports.

The Ambassador highlighted Kazakhstan’s intentions to continue broadening the existing partnership and emphasized that the two economies should support the post-pandemic recovery and give a boost to the trade and investments cooperation.

Sugurbayev mentioned that Kazakhstan remains committed to protecting the investors' rights and its economic agreements while keeping its market open and independent while consecutively enhancing the business climate in the country. Ambassador briefed the Deputy Foreign Minister on the recent reforms package announced by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on March 16. Aimed at sustainable political development, rule of law, transparent business environment and enhanced investment climate, the reforms will support Kazakhstan’s transformation into a regional hub for Malaysia and the whole Southeast Asia.

Deputy Foreign Minister highlighted Kazakhstan’s role as Malaysia’s important partner in the Central Asian region and reconfirmed his commitment to further expanding the existing brotherly relations between our countries.

They also exchanged congratulatory letters from the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and the King of Malaysia Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah, as well as the Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Mukhtar Tleuberdi and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia Dato’ Sri Saifuddin Abdullah, dedicated to the 30th Anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Malaysia.

Two countries established diplomatic relations on March 16, 1992. Our total investment portfolio has almost reached USD 1 billion. Malaysia has become one of the leading tourism and education destinations for Kazakhstan.
