Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis paid an official visit to Kazakhstan, Delovoy Kazakhstan reports.
During the visit, the Lithuanian minister met with the leadership of the Senate and Majilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan. The Lithuanian minister's program also included a meeting with the Head of State.
On December 6 in the Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan was held a meeting of foreign ministers of Kazakhstan and Lithuania Mukhtar Tileuberdi and Gabrielius Landsbergis. The parties discussed steps to further expand Kazakh-Lithuanian cooperation in the political, trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres, as well as interaction within the framework of international organizations.
The interlocutors noted that the high level of political dialogue between Kazakhstan and Lithuania has created favorable conditions for the realization of potential in the trade and economic spheres. An important mechanism for the development of cooperation in this area is the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, which includes working groups on road transport and tourism.
Lithuania is one of the main trade partners of Kazakhstan among the European Union countries. In the first nine months of 2022, the bilateral trade turnover amounted to 500.4 million US dollars. It was 2.1 times higher than during the same period of the previous year (242.4 million US dollars). About 170 Lithuanian companies are represented in Kazakhstan.
The parties also discussed the state and prospects of development of cooperation between the two countries in medicine, education, IT technologies and innovations. The Lithuanian community «Lithuanica» is an active member of the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan. The seven-thousand Lithuanian diaspora in Kazakhstan as a «golden bridge» contributes significantly to the rapprochement and development of our countries.
