Today, the United Nations in Kazakhstan presented the photo exhibition "UN & Me" – 30 stories of ordinary Kazakhstani citizens whose resilience, determination, and belief in a better future have not only transformed their own lives but also contributed to sustainable development, DKNews.kz reports.
From students to doctors and entrepreneurs, from representatives of civil society to policymakers and agriculture experts – each story attests to the strength of the human spirit and the importance of support from the global community. For over three decades, the UN has actively supported various initiatives and projects in Kazakhstan, promoting social development and improving the quality of life for its citizens. In 2023, Kazakhstan made further strides towards sustainable development, adopting the Carbon Neutrality Strategy, a new Social Code, accelerating inclusive service provision based on digital technologies, and taking measures to enhance the protection of socio-economic rights of vulnerable groups. To support these achievements, the UN provided policy advisory services, promoted international norms and standards, and implemented catalytic programs to advance the Sustainable Development Goals.

Among the heroes of the exhibition are Senator Lyazzat Kaltayeva, who works to defend the rights of people with disabilities; former refugee Yasamin, who, thanks to UN support, is studying to become a doctor; Assem Tazhiyeva revolutionizing social impact through her startup – Ozim Platform, providing essential information for parents, including those with children with disabilities. Kuralai Bekenova has become a pioneer of the Y-PEER movement, advocating for gender equality and human rights. Whereas Eldar Shibanov has achieved significant success in cinema, receiving funding from the Venice Film Festival for his screenplay "Mountain Onion". And these are just a few of the stories showcased in the project.
UN initiatives cover a wide range of issues – from expanding access to education and healthcare to promoting gender equality and enhancing economic rights and opportunities, as well as human rights, all aimed at building a more inclusive society. In 2023, jointly with partners, the UN support to Kazakhstan amounted to $33.3 million.
