Open the door to the Universe: The new "Farabi" Observatory

By the Day of Science Workers of Kazakhstan and the International Day of Cosmonautics in the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University opened a modern observatory "Farabi", DKNews.kz reports.

The new center, opened for the first time among the universities of the country, gives the opportunity to get acquainted with the amazing starry sky and conduct research with the help of modern telescopes.

The opening ceremony was attended by Bakytzhan Zhumagulov, President of the National Academy of Engineering, Galymzhan Zhankuatov, Chairman of the Science Committee of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Zhanseit Tuimebayev, Chairman of the Board - Rector of Al-Farabi KazNU, Kaisar Sarybaev, Head of the Creative Industry Department of Almaty, domestic and foreign scientists, faculty and young students.

At the solemn event Zhanseit Tuimebayev noted that the university facility will become a place of scientific discoveries of scientists and students.

"Farabi Observatory" is designed for scientific research of young scientists and practical training of students. At the new facility, university students can observe celestial bodies. This approach will allow young people to hone their skills in the field. This observatory will contribute to the development of people's horizons in understanding the universe and celestial objects. I think that this experience will be a prerequisite for further research work of graduates of KazNU on large telescopes around the world" Zhanseit Tuimebaev

The observatory is equipped with an educational telescope Meade LX90-ACF with a professional optical scheme, with a diagonal of 12 inches and a focal length of 3048 mm. Also here are 3 types of modern type telescope. These equipment will allow you to make observations of the planets of the solar system, such as Saturn, Mars, Jupiter and its satellites, double and multiple stars, the phases of the Moon and other bodies of near space.

The Farabi Observatory, designed in the form of a dome, is located on the open alley in front of the Al-Farabi Library on the KazNU campus.
