The cooperation between Kazakhstan and the People's Republic of China (PRC) in the field of investment demonstrates impressive results and significant development prospects. China ranks among the top ten major investors in Kazakhstan's economy, with the gross inflow of direct investment from China to Kazakhstan amounting to approximately $16.2 billion over the past ten years. By the end of 2023, this figure reached $1.85 billion, indicating strong economic ties between the two countries, DKnews.kz reports.

Major Investment Projects

Currently, there are 96 investment projects between Kazakhstan and China worth a total of $28.2 billion, creating 22,200 jobs. Among them:

  • 53 completed projects worth $8.3 billion.
  • 11 ongoing projects worth $3.9 billion.
  • 32 prospective projects worth $15.9 billion.

These projects cover various sectors, including energy, oil refining, petrochemicals, metallurgy, mechanical engineering, and construction.

Companies with Chinese Capital

Over 4,000 companies with Chinese capital successfully operate in Kazakhstan, including major corporations such as CNPC, CITIC, NFC, Sinopec, and Huawei. These companies actively participate in project implementation and contribute to the development of Kazakhstan's economy.

Promising Direction: Transport and Logistics

One of the most promising areas of cooperation is transport and logistics. Kazakhstan plays a crucial role in the Chinese initiative "Belt and Road" due to its numerous transcontinental routes. Transit corridors through Kazakhstan enable faster delivery of goods from China to Europe compared to sea routes.

Currently, eight automobile transit corridors pass through Kazakhstan, functioning at full capacity. The "Western Europe – Western China" corridor is particularly significant, ensuring transit flow from China through Kazakhstan, Russia, and further to Europe, as well as to Central Asian countries, particularly Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.

Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR)

Additionally, the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) passes through Kazakhstan, crossing China, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and European countries. Recently, an event dedicated to the launch of the TITR Coordination Platform was held in Astana, approved within the framework of the "Global Gateway" Investors Forum. This event highlights Kazakhstan's importance as a key transit hub in international logistics.

The cooperation between Kazakhstan and China in investment and logistics demonstrates high results and significant development prospects. Investments in infrastructure, energy, and industrial projects, as well as the development of transport corridors, strengthen economic ties and create new opportunities for businesses and people in both countries.
