KazNU and PolyU Joint Research Center to open

A meeting with the delegation of Hong Kong Polytechnic University was held in Al-Farabi KazNU, DKnews.kz reports.

Deputy Chairman of the Board - First Vice-Rector of KazNU Yerkin Duisenov acquainted the guests with the achievements of the university and highlighted the main activities of the Chinese Language Centre at the Faculty of Oriental Studies and the Confucius Institute.

Yerkin Ermanovich also noted the opening of the branch of the Northwest Polytechnic University of China in KazNU, the activities of the Centre for Remote Sensing of the Earth, Chinese-Kazakhstan Laboratory of Remote Sensing Technologies, International Chinese-Kazakhstan scientific laboratory on energy-intensive nanotechnology and laboratory ‘Communication Technologies 5G/5.5G’. 

‘We are very pleased with your desire to open a joint centre with us. All intellectual and moral resources will be directed from our side to support it,’ Yerkin Ermanovich emphasised. - The joint project will serve the rapprochement of our countries, peoples in the sphere of science and education’.

Ben Koo, Director of the China and Global Development Network, HaK PolyU Department of Applied Social Sciences and Co-Director of the Beijing-Hong Kong Centre for Social Work Research in China, spoke in his response about the achievements of Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), which ranks 57th in the QS WUR 2025 ranking. Asia's largest university co-operates with 440 institutions from 47 countries. Notable alumni include film director Wong Karwai, fashion designer Vivienne Tam and musician Paul Wong.

The PolyU delegation presented the project of the joint PolyU and KazNU Research Centre for Social Work and Social Development in Central Asia, which will serve as a focal point for academic and professional exchange between academics, practitioners and government officials from the region.

‘The Centre will be a base for PolyU at the prestigious KazNU to establish contacts with countries in the region, conduct research, develop academic and professional cooperation, hold talks and seminars, develop student leadership and service learning programmes, and host various events,’ Mr. Ben Koo stressed.

Both sides regarded the initiative as much needed, timely and strategic. It is expected to play a key role in guiding the future development of social work and social development in Kazakhstan, Central Asia and among the One Belt, One Road countries.

The meeting ended with a discussion on the establishment of the joint centre and exchange of views of the project participants.
