Astana to Host Region’s First Tier IV Data Center, DKnews.kz reports.
Astana will soon be home to the first Tier IV data center in Central Asia, according to Vladislav Minkevich, CEO of AKASHI DATA CENTER.
The project, scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2026, promises to deliver unmatched reliability and address the critical shortage of computing capacity in Kazakhstan. The new facility will house 4,000 server racks, effectively doubling the country’s current capacity.
According to Minkevich, as of the end of 2024, Kazakhstan had approximately 3,800 server racks, which are nearly fully utilized — a bottleneck that slows down digital transformation and hampers the entry of new tech-driven businesses.
Tier IV certification ensures exceptional uptime, with a maximum of just 26 minutes of downtime per year. This level of reliability is vital for the financial, banking, and public sectors, where even brief interruptions can result in serious economic, reputational, or administrative losses.
The new data center will enhance Kazakhstan’s cybersecurity and digital sovereignty, enabling local data storage and processing, the deployment of national cyber shields, and real-time monitoring of external threats. As the first Tier IV data center in Central Asia, the facility represents a strategic milestone that is expected to attract global tech giants and fuel regional innovation, positioning Kazakhstan as a digital economy leader.
“Domestic data centers are crucial to securely storing information within Kazakhstan” Vladislav Minkevich
“It’s essential to have our own processing infrastructure to ensure continued access to familiar resources, websites, and documents.
In the event of geopolitical conflict, sanctions, or third-party disruptions, nothing will compromise Kazakhstan’s cyber sovereignty.”
Astana was selected as the site for construction due to its role as a key hub for IT projects. Its proximity to Astana Hub and the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC) — which offers tax incentives and legal advantages — makes it an attractive location for both local and international companies.
Moreover, Astana’s position as a major transport and logistics hub further enhances its potential as a data infrastructure platform. The project is expected to act as a catalyst for economic growth, drawing in technology firms and creating new business opportunities across the digital ecosystem.
