On July 21, 2025, Ust-Kamenogorsk (Oskemen) officially became the epicenter of the chess world as the international chess festival Oskemen Open 2025 kicked off.

Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University will host intense matchups featuring grandmasters, rising talents, and passionate enthusiasts from around the world.

Organized by KazChess, Oskemen Open 2025 features three rating-based tournaments:
- Masters (Rating 2400+)
- Challengers (1900–2399)
- Open (1400–1899)
Each competition follows a 9-round Swiss system with classical time control: 90 minutes per game + 30 seconds increment per move.
