On 3 August 2025, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres will pay a working visit to Kazakhstan as part of his ongoing engagement across Central Asia, DKnews.kz reports.
During his visit to Almaty, the Secretary-General will meet with the President of Kazakhstan, H.E. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, along with senior government officials and representatives of the UN Country Team.
A Regional Hub for Sustainable Development
A key milestone of the visit will be the signing of an agreement between the United Nations and the Government of Kazakhstan to establish a UN Regional Center for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), serving Central Asia and Afghanistan.
The agreement will be signed by:
- Mr. Murat Nurtleu, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan
- Mr. Li Junhua, UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs
This initiative reflects Kazakhstan’s growing leadership in advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and deepening regional cooperation across key areas.
A Strong and Evolving Partnership
This will be Mr. Guterres’s third official visit to Kazakhstan as Secretary-General, reinforcing the strong and growing partnership between Kazakhstan and the United Nations.
The visit highlights Kazakhstan’s long-standing commitment to multilateral diplomacy, peacebuilding, and the principles enshrined in the UN Charter.
In his remarks, the Secretary-General is expected to underscore the urgency of revitalized multilateralism in tackling today’s shared global and regional challenges - including climate change, digital transformation, and inclusive, sustainable development.
