Kazakhstan and Russia are taking their industrial cooperation to a whole new level. The two countries are currently implementing 171 joint projects with a total value exceeding $56 billion. That's 7-8 times more than what was initially planned back in 2019. This was announced by Roman Sklyar, First Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, during a strategic session at the INNOPROM-2025 exhibition, which is taking place in Yekaterinburg from July 7 to 10, DKNews.kz reports.
From ambition to scale
"In 2019, Denis Valentinovich Manturov and I signed a roadmap for developing industrial cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan. Today, our joint investment portfolio includes 171 projects worth more than $56 billion," Sklyar said.
He noted that this is 7-8 times higher than what had been planned six years ago. Previously, the two countries had already completed 105 projects worth over $21 billion, which laid the groundwork for even more ambitious initiatives.
Focus on high value-added production
Speaking at the session, Sklyar emphasized that Kazakhstan is undergoing a major shift in its economic model, aiming to move away from raw material dependency and toward the production of high value-added goods. This means developing high-tech industries, implementing digital solutions, and modernizing key sectors.
"It's impossible to make such structural changes without active cooperation with other countries, especially our neighbors. Within the EAEU, we don’t have customs borders, so we shouldn’t compete where it doesn’t make sense. Instead, we should work together to fill the many open market niches," he explained.
Kazakhstan's growth - the numbers speak for themselves
Kazakhstan's industrial growth is also reflected in strong macroeconomic indicators. According to Sklyar, in 2024:
- GDP grew by 4.8%
- Manufacturing increased by 6%, surpassing the raw materials sector for the first time
"These are results we’re proud of. And of course, such positive outcomes wouldn’t be possible without cooperation with other countries - especially the Russian Federation," he added.
INNOPROM-2025: industrial breakthrough in focus
The INNOPROM-2025 exhibition in Yekaterinburg has become a key platform for discussing the future of industry. This year’s theme - "Technological Leadership: Industrial Breakthrough" - perfectly aligns with the ambitions of the Kazakhstan-Russia partnership.
Why it matters
The industrial partnership between Kazakhstan and Russia is more than a diplomatic gesture. It’s a powerful economic shift, with real impact on technological development, job creation, and regional leadership. And the fact that actual investments have already outpaced original projections several times over shows that the momentum is real - and only getting stronger.
