In the evening, at Ukraine’s initiative, a direct phone call took place between President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, DKNews.kz reports.

The two leaders spoke about the most pressing issues – the war, the prospects for peace, and what tomorrow could look like for millions of people.

Words that resonate

Tokayev began with something simple yet profound: the Kazakh people hold deep respect for the Ukrainian people – their history, culture, and language. This, he stressed, is not just a diplomatic courtesy, but a stance proven over time.

He recalled that since the beginning of the conflict, Kazakhstan has consistently advocated for a fair resolution based on the principles of international law, the inviolability of borders, and the territorial integrity of sovereign states.

Peace is better than any quarrel

During the conversation, Tokayev invoked an age-old proverb: “A bad peace is better than a good quarrel.” In his view, the priority today is not to get trapped in the deadlock of complex territorial disputes, but to find a path that preserves Ukraine’s statehood and provides it with reliable security guarantees.

“Territorial issues are the most challenging in global politics,” he said. “But right now, the top priority is to safeguard the country and its future.”

 Looking ahead

The leaders discussed more than just peace – they talked about the future. Kazakhstan is ready to deepen cooperation with Ukraine, from trade and the economy to humanitarian initiatives.

The conversation was sincere, warm, and constructive. It proved once again that even in the most difficult times, there are those willing to seek common ground and build bridges instead of walls.
