On August 19, 2025, the National Analytical Center (NAC), together with Harvard University’s Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies and supported by the NU Impact Foundation, hosted a conference on “Kazakhstan’s Green Transition” at Nazarbayev University. The event brought together senior policymakers, industry leaders, and international experts to discuss practical pathways toward the country’s 2060 carbon-neutrality target, DKNews.kz reports.

The conference addressed timely and pressing issues, including the strategic development of the renewable energy sector, designing policies that balance climate ambition with national priorities, and attracting the investment needed to green the economy.

Behavioral science was also highlighted for its potential to improve household energy efficiency through behavioral nudges. NAC researchers presented their perspective on how behavioral insights can shape citizen engagement and drive measurable efficiency gains.

Another key theme was the development of a nuclear cluster — a move that could position Kazakhstan as a key player in global low-carbon energy supply chains while advancing its national decarbonization goals and energy security objectives.

The discussions generated practical policy recommendations for the Government of Kazakhstan and emphasized the need to align environmental goals with economic resilience in ways that serve both national interests and global commitments.

The event also marked an important step in strengthening cooperation between leading research institutions in Kazakhstan and fostering international knowledge exchange.
