Tokayev’s working visit to the US began with a dialogue on cooperation in nuclear energy

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Cameco Corporation CEO Tim Gitzel, DKNews.kz reports.

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev began his working visit to New York with a meeting with the head of the Canadian multinational company, during which the prospects for cooperation in the uranium industry were discussed.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted that Cameco has been a longstanding and reliable partner of the national company Kazatomprom. Since the beginning of its operations in Kazakhstan, the company has invested over $500 million and contributed to the transfer of technologies.

President Tokayev emphasized that Kazakhstan is entering a new stage in the development of its energy sector, setting the goal of building three nuclear power plants. He underlined the country’s interest in innovative methods applied in the nuclear industry.

For his part, Tim Gitzel informed the President about the current activities and plans of the joint venture “Inkai”, which has been developing the eponymous deposit in the Turkistan region for more than 25 years.
