Research Results on 'Ecology through the Eyes of Kazakhstanis' Presented at the Presidential Center in Recognition of the National Campaign 'Taza Kazakhstan', DKNews.kz reports.
The Presidential Center of the DPA RK hosted a presentation of the research results 'Ecology Through the Eyes of Kazakhstanis' and an award ceremony for the 'Climate: Countdown' contest winners. The event, organized in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme in Kazakhstan, was held in recognition of the national campaign 'Taza Kazakhstan,' the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies, and in anticipation of the 30th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. Approximately 60 participants attended, including representatives from government agencies, foreign diplomatic missions, media, the expert community, university faculty, and students.
“The research findings presented today in ‘Ecology Through the Eyes of Kazakhstanis’ not only reflect public opinion on key environmental issues but also serve as a basis for the development of effective and timely policy measures. I would particularly like to highlight Kazakhstan’s significant contribution to addressing environmental challenges through the nationwide campaign ‘Taza Kazakhstan’, which clearly demonstrates that environmental protection is not only the responsibility of the state, but of every citizen. Today, the environmental agenda has come to the forefront, uniting the efforts of nations in pursuit of a sustainable future. In this context, the initiatives of the Head of State, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, announced on September 24 this year from the UN General Assembly podium, are of special importance. The President put forward several concrete and timely proposals, including hosting a regional environmental summit in Astana and establishing an International Day of Reforestation on April 22. These initiatives reflect Kazakhstan's strong commitment to global dialogue and underscore the country’s active role in addressing contemporary environmental challenges”, noted Serik Sydykov, Deputy Director of the Presidential Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Approximately 50 entries were submitted to the “Climate: Countdown” contest. After jury selection, the top works were presented at the award ceremony, underscoring the contribution of Kazakhstani print journalists to raising public awareness of climate change, biodiversity loss, and adaptation and mitigation opportunities in Kazakhstan.
“Today’s event is aimed at recognizing the crucial role of the media in promoting climate topics among all segments of the population, fostering eco-culture, and inspiring society to create a climate-resilient economy and community. Raising the level of environmental awareness and the quality of media coverage is an integral component of a comprehensive response to environmental threats,” shared Katarzyna Wawiernia, Permanent Representative of the UNDP in Kazakhstan.
“The media plays a key role in uniting us around a common goal. Now more than ever, it is crucial to form a 'coalition of the willing' to propose and implement policies that ensure the security and sustainability of our common home—for current and future generations,” said Marcel Biato, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federative Republic of Brazil to the Republic of Kazakhstan.
It is worth noting that this project aligns with the national campaign “Taza Kazakhstan,” initiated by the Head of State K.K. Tokayev, aimed at uniting the efforts of the government and society in implementing the environmental agenda and sustainable development principles, as well as emphasizing the important role of the media in covering climate issues, forming environmental consciousness, and stimulating society’s transition to a climate-resilient future.
Mansur Oshurbaev, Vice Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, emphasized that journalists play a key role in making climate change and environmental sustainability issues more accessible to the public. Their work fosters ecological awareness and motivates people to take meaningful action.
The event concluded with the award ceremony for the contest winners.
Thus, in the “Climate” category, first place was awarded to Orazay Kydyrbaev, second place was shared by Zhadra Zhulmukhametova and Anelya Oserkhan, and third place was awarded to Zhanat Tukpiev and Dinara Nasyr. In the “Biodiversity” category, the winner was Bekzat Aytzhan.
