Efes Kazakhstan celebrates the 20th anniversary of its Almaty brewery, proving that large-scale production can be both efficient and environmentally responsible. The company has achieved impressive results in reducing water consumption — cutting usage more than fivefold, from 13.19 hl/hl in 2004 to 2.74 hl/hl in 2025. This performance aligns with the best global brewing standards and has saved over 1.15 million cubic meters of clean water — equivalent to the annual consumption of 4,500 households.

The transformation was gradual. The first step was the introduction of a canning line, which significantly reduced water usage compared to glass bottle and keg production. In the following years, the brewery consistently improved its processes: installing flow meters, utilizing rainwater and recycled water, optimizing filling lines and heat exchangers, and adding storage tanks for hot and wastewater. In 2025, a “smart” CIP (Clean-in-Place) system was launched, automating the cleaning of equipment and further minimizing water consumption.
Efes Kazakhstan embraces a holistic approach to sustainability — combining water conservation with a shift to renewable energy. Since 2025, the company has been using International Renewable Energy Certificates (iREC), confirming that 100% of electricity consumed at its Almaty and Karaganda breweries comes from renewable sources — specifically, the region’s largest solar power plant in Kapshagay and a wind farm in Nurly.
The company is also actively working to reduce carbon emissions. Over the past decade, greenhouse gas emissions have been cut by nearly 40%. The next major goal is to achieve full carbon neutrality. Planned initiatives include gasification of the Karaganda plant, implementation of heat recovery systems, and switching to electric forklifts.

A key figure in these achievements has been Country Technical Director Fedai Coskun, who has been leading sustainability and efficiency projects since 2008. Under his leadership, Efes Kazakhstan has implemented World -Class Manufacturing (WCM).Breweries reached exceptional water consumption levels and fully transitioned to green electricity. His expertise and strategic vision have helped the company develop a systematic approach to production modernization and innovation adoption.

By joining the UN Global Compact in 2024, Efes Kazakhstan reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable development and responsible business practices. Employees completed training under the SDG Ambition program, enabling the integration of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into the company's strategy — linking business performance with positive impacts on society and the environment.
Efes Kazakhstan also leads its own environmental initiatives. Through the GoGreen project, the company invests in the restoration of forested areas across Kazakhstan, supports the Semey Ormany reforestation efforts, and contributes to the preservation of the country’s natural resources.

"Every liter of water saved and every kilowatt of renewable energy used is our investment in the future. We demonstrate that sustainable production is not a limitation — it is a pathway to innovation," the company emphasizes.
