An official presentation of the Alma-Aport apple tree was held at the Botanical Garden of Brazil’s capital. An information plaque was installed so visitors can learn about the story of this legendary Kazakh variety, DKNews.kz reports.

The ceremony brought together officials, diplomats and community representatives. Speakers included:
- Paulo César Chaves, Executive Secretary for International Affairs of the Federal District Government
- Daniella Fernandes Martins Anhos Soares, Deputy Director of the Botanical Garden
- Ulisses Riedel, President of the Kazakhstan-Brazil Friendship Forum
- Cassiano Viana, President of the Brazil-Kazakhstan Chamber of Commerce
- representatives of the Foreign Ministry, diplomatic corps and local media
Why it matters
Kazakhstan’s Ambassador Bolat Nussupov noted that, like many other nations, Kazakhstan now has its own symbol in the garden - the Alma-Aport apple tree.
He spoke about the origins of the Aport apple, its cultural meaning for Kazakhstan, and thanked the staff of the garden for their care.
The Aport is one of the best-known symbols of Almaty and is closely associated with the historical homeland of wild apples.
Reaction from Brazil
On behalf of the Federal District Government, Paulo Chaves thanked Kazakhstan for enriching the garden’s collection.
According to him, the tree will:
- attract even more visitors
- raise interest in Kazakhstan
- symbolize friendship between the two countries
About Brasília’s Botanical Garden
The Jardim Botânico de Brasília was founded in 1985. It was the first botanical garden designed primarily to preserve the Cerrado ecosystem.
