A cultural and educational event was held at the Zhambyl Zhabayev Library in Kyiv for students of Lyceum No. 34 named after V. Maksymenko. The program introduced children to the pages of history and literature that bring Kazakhstan and Ukraine closer together, DKNews.kz reports.
Shevchenko and the Kazakh steppe: little-known pages of history
Students learned about the period of Taras Shevchenko’s life on the territory of modern Kazakhstan — how he lived, what he wrote, and why those years became an important chapter in his creative path. It was emphasized that even in exile, he continued to create works that later became a cultural bridge between the two nations.

Abai: poet, thinker and educator
A separate part of the event focused on the heritage of Abai Kunanbaiuly — a great Kazakh poet and philosopher. His reflections on knowledge, morality and human values, as well as the timeless relevance of “The Words of Edification,” were highlighted.
Shared history — shared values
Organizers also spoke about the historical, cultural and spiritual ties between Kazakhstan and Ukraine — connections reflected in the literature of both countries and forming the basis for today’s humanitarian dialogue.
Books as gifts
At the end of the event, participants received Ukrainian-language books:
- “Magical Stories of the Great Steppe”,
- “Words of Edification by Abai”,
- “Kobzar in the Steppes of Kazakhstan.”
According to the organizers, the event contributed to strengthening cultural dialogue and sparked young people’s interest in the shared history and literary heritage of Kazakhstan and Ukraine.
