Kazakhstan and Latvia are stepping up efforts to deepen their bilateral dialogue. A meeting was held at the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia between the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan Dauren Karipov and Member of the Saeima, Head of the Saeima Group for Cooperation with the Parliament of Kazakhstan Linda LiepinaDKNews.kz reports.

The talks focused on the current state of Kazakhstan-Latvia relations, prospects for their further development, and practical steps to give new momentum to bilateral cooperation.

Focus on parliamentary cooperation

During the meeting, Ambassador Karipov briefed the Latvian side on the dynamics of Kazakhstan-Latvia cooperation and outlined the schedule of joint events planned for the current year. Particular attention was paid to the importance of revitalising interaction between the legislative bodies of the two countries.

According to the Kazakh diplomat, a strong and systematic parliamentary dialogue can serve as a solid foundation for advancing cooperation not only in politics, but also in trade, logistics, transport and humanitarian exchanges.

Trade and economy as key drivers

For her part, Linda Liepina reaffirmed Latvia’s interest in deepening and expanding bilateral relations with Kazakhstan. She emphasised that strengthening trade and economic cooperation should remain a priority, as it can act as a key driver for the broader partnership between the two countries.

She also expressed support for the idea of giving new impetus to the inter-parliamentary dimension of Kazakhstan-Latvia relations, noting that closer contacts between MPs and профиль committees could help translate political intentions into concrete results.

A bridge between Europe and Central Asia

Observers note that such meetings are gaining particular importance amid a changing geopolitical and economic landscape. Kazakhstan is seen as one of the European Union’s key partners in Central Asia, while the Baltic states play an important role in shaping dialogue between the EU and the region.

Holding the talks at the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia underscores both sides’ commitment to parliamentary diplomacy as a practical and effective tool for strengthening bilateral ties.

A clear signal of readiness for deeper engagement

The meeting in Riga sent a clear signal that both Kazakhstan and Latvia are ready to move beyond formal political contacts towards more substantive and results-oriented cooperation. Enhanced parliamentary interaction may become a catalyst for new initiatives in trade, investment and institutional dialogue.

For Kazakhstan, this opens additional opportunities to expand its engagement with European partners. For Latvia, it offers a chance to strengthen its presence and partnerships in Central Asia through closer cooperation with one of the region’s key states.
