President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has signed the Charter of the Peace Council, a new international initiative launched at the initiative of U.S. President Donald Trump. The signing ceremony took place on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, DKNews.kz reports.

The event became one of the notable political moments of this year’s forum, held amid heightened global tensions and growing demand for new mechanisms of international dialogue.

A new platform for global dialogue

Alongside President Tokayev, leaders and representatives of 18 countries took part in the signing of the Charter. The Peace Council is envisioned as a multilateral platform aimed at strengthening dialogue between states and promoting peaceful solutions to international disputes.

Kazakhstan’s participation among the founding signatories underscores the country’s active role in international diplomacy and its long-standing commitment to dialogue, mediation, and conflict prevention.

Why the Peace Council matters

The creation of the Peace Council comes at a time when global politics is marked by increasing polarization and declining trust between nations. The initiative seeks to complement existing international institutions by offering a flexible forum for communication and confidence-building.

The decision to formalize the Council in Davos is symbolic. The World Economic Forum has increasingly served not only as an economic platform, but also as a venue for discussing global security and geopolitical stability.

Kazakhstan’s diplomatic role

For Kazakhstan, joining the Peace Council aligns with its foreign policy priorities, which emphasize:

  • multilateral diplomacy,
  • peaceful conflict resolution,
  • and engagement in international peace initiatives.

President Tokayev has consistently advocated for dialogue-based approaches to global challenges, highlighting the importance of diplomacy and mutual trust in an increasingly fragmented world. Signing the Peace Council Charter reinforces Kazakhstan’s position as a constructive and reliable international partner.

Davos beyond economics

The 2026 World Economic Forum once again demonstrated that Davos is not only about markets and technology. Major political initiatives and diplomatic efforts are increasingly taking shape on its margins, reflecting the interconnected nature of global economic and security challenges.

The launch of the Peace Council adds a new dimension to these discussions, signaling a shared interest among participating countries in strengthening global stability through cooperation rather than confrontation.
