Kazakhstan’s Ambassador meets Vice-President of the Pan-African Parliament in Addis Ababa, DKNews.kz reports.
Kazakhstan’s ongoing political reforms are drawing attention far beyond Eurasia. In Addis Ababa, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the African Union Zhalgas Adilbayev met with Dr. Ashebir Gayo, Vice-President of the Pan-African Parliament and Member of the National Assembly of Ethiopia.
The meeting focused on strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation and sharing Kazakhstan’s recent reform experience, particularly the outcomes of the 5th meeting of the National Kurultai, held on January 20 under the chairmanship of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
What Kazakhstan presented to Africa’s lawmakers
During the talks, the Kazakh diplomat gave a detailed overview of the President’s key initiatives announced at the Kurultai. Special attention was paid to Kazakhstan’s transition toward a new political model, aimed at modernizing state governance while preserving stability.
This model предусматривает:
- transformation of the legislative branch,
- establishment of the office of Vice-President,
- strengthening national and civic identity,
- large-scale integration of digital technologies and Artificial Intelligence into public administration.
“Kazakhstan is undergoing a stage of profound institutional transformation. The decisions adopted at the Kurultai on January 20 lay the foundation for a new political architecture that will make our state more efficient and resilient,” Ambassador Adilbayev said.
Why Kazakhstan’s experience matters to Africa
Dr. Ashebir Gayo expressed strong interest in Kazakhstan’s reform path, noting that for many African countries undergoing democratic transformation, Kazakhstan’s ability to modernize its political system while maintaining internal stability is especially relevant.
He also shared a personal connection to the country, recalling his student years in Almaty, which left him with warm memories and a lasting affinity for Kazakhstan.
According to Dr. Gayo, Kazakhstan stands out for achieving tangible modernization results while simultaneously maintaining constructive and friendly relations with neighboring states and international partners.
From politics to economics
Beyond political dialogue, the sides discussed cooperation on international platforms, as well as prospects for expanding trade, economic, and investment ties. Both agreed to continue joint efforts to bring bilateral relations between Astana and Addis Ababa to a new qualitative level of mutually beneficial partnership.
Support ahead of the referendum
At the conclusion of the meeting, Dr. Gayo wished the people of Kazakhstan success in the upcoming nationwide referendum on constitutional amendments. He noted that the concept of “Just Kazakhstan” is increasingly seen as an important reference point for stable and balanced development across Eurasia.
Observers note that growing interest from African political institutions reflects Kazakhstan’s evolving international image - as a country pursuing deep reforms without sacrificing political stability, and one whose experience resonates well beyond its region.
