Kazakhstan’s Minister of Science and Higher Education, Sayasat Nurbek, met with Kazakh students studying at leading universities in the United Kingdom during a visit to University College London (UCL).

The meeting brought together students from top British institutions for an open discussion about the future of higher education, science, and Kazakhstan’s place in the global academic community, DKNews.kz reports.

A vision built on knowledge and technology

As part of the event, Minister Nurbek delivered a lecture titled “Kazakhstan: the Territory of Academic Knowledge”, outlining the country’s long-term strategy for developing higher education and science. He emphasized that Kazakhstan’s future growth will be driven by knowledge, research, and advanced technologies.

The minister highlighted the importance of international academic cooperation, including partnerships between universities, joint research projects, and global knowledge exchange. He also spoke about ongoing efforts to digitalize education and integrate artificial intelligence into learning and research processes across Kazakhstan’s universities.

Opportunities for students studying abroad

Special attention was given to the opportunities available to Kazakh students studying overseas. The discussion covered the expansion of academic mobility, dual-degree programs, research fellowships, and pathways for young professionals to contribute to Kazakhstan’s social and economic development after completing their studies.

According to the minister, the experience and expertise gained abroad are highly valuable for the country. Kazakhstan is interested in creating conditions that encourage talented graduates to return and apply their knowledge at home.

Open dialogue and student questions

The meeting continued in an open discussion format, with students raising questions about national education policy, youth support programs, graduate employment, and the future development of the Bolashak international scholarship program.

Minister Nurbek stressed the importance of maintaining constant dialogue with the student community and noted that Kazakh students studying abroad represent a vital part of the country’s intellectual capital.

Strengthening ties with the global academic community

The London meeting became another step toward strengthening cooperation between the Kazakh government and the country’s academic community abroad. Such engagements help students better understand national priorities and see their future role in Kazakhstan’s development.

As Kazakhstan continues to position education and science at the core of its national strategy, students gaining experience at the world’s leading universities are emerging as one of the country’s most important assets.
