A group of Ukrainian children from the frontline Sumy region has arrived in Kazakhstan for a three-week stay in the city of Aktau, on the coast of the Caspian Sea. The visit was announced by Ukraine’s Ambassador Viktor Maiko.

For children growing up close to the frontline, the trip offers a rare opportunity to step away from constant stress, change their surroundings, and spend time in a safe and peaceful environment, DKNews.kz reports.

Three weeks of rest and discovery

The children will spend three weeks in Aktau, taking part in a rich and carefully planned program. Along with отдых by the sea, they will get to know Kazakhstan’s culture and traditions and visit historical and natural landmarks of the Mangystau region.

Aktau and its surroundings are known not only for the Caspian coastline, but also for their unique landscapes and sacred sites. For many of the children, this trip will be their first encounter with Central Asia.

A joint humanitarian effort

According to Ambassador Maiko, the trip became possible thanks to the support of Mangystau Region Akim Nurdaulet Kilibay and Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Ukraine Tolezhan Barlybayev. Significant contributions were also made by Kazakhstan’s business community and the Ukrainian diaspora.

The initiative reflects how cooperation between regional authorities, diplomats, businesses, and communities can lead to meaningful humanitarian outcomes.

“The strongest bridges between countries”

Viktor Maiko подчеркнул the importance of such initiatives, noting that they go beyond traditional diplomacy.

“Three intense and meaningful weeks lie ahead for the children. They will discover Kazakhstan’s culture and traditions and visit unique historical sites. I truly believe that joint humanitarian initiatives are the strongest bridges between countries. And when you see the children’s smiles, you realize that all of this is worth it,” the ambassador said.

Why this matters

In the context of ongoing conflict, humanitarian initiatives aimed at supporting children carry special significance. For Kazakhstan, hosting the children is a quiet but powerful expression of solidarity and human compassion.

For the children themselves, the trip means calm days by the sea, new experiences, and memories that can offer warmth and hope during a very difficult period of their lives.
