Kazakhstan and Russia expand scientific and technological cooperation in agriculture, DKNews.kz reports.

Kazakhstan is stepping up its focus on science-driven agriculture — and international partnerships are playing a key role in that strategy.

On the sidelines of the international food and beverage exhibition Gulfood 2026, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Agriculture Aidarbek Saparov held a working meeting with Russia’s Minister of Agriculture Oksana Lut. The talks highlighted a shared interest in deepening scientific and technological cooperation in the agro-industrial sector.

During the meeting, both sides emphasized the strong potential for joint projects in plant breeding and seed production, as well as in the development of commercial livestock farming in Kazakhstan. Modern technologies and research-based approaches, the ministers noted, could significantly increase productivity and sustainability across the sector.

Russia, according to the discussions, remains one of Kazakhstan’s key strategic partners in agriculture. The two countries maintain regular dialogue and continue to implement joint initiatives aimed at improving the efficiency of agricultural production. These include the exchange of scientific developments, strengthening breeding infrastructure, and introducing advanced livestock management practices.

Minister Saparov placed particular emphasis on issues that go beyond technology alone. He highlighted land reclamation, workforce training, and agricultural education as critical foundations for the long-term growth of Kazakhstan’s agro-industrial complex. Without skilled professionals and modern infrastructure, he stressed, sustainable development in agriculture would not be possible.

Following the meeting, Kazakhstan reaffirmed its readiness to further strengthen cooperation with the Russian Federation in priority areas of the agro-industrial sector. The focus, officials said, will remain on mutually beneficial collaboration and long-term technological partnership.

Experts believe that such dialogue reflects Kazakhstan’s broader ambition to modernize its agricultural sector, boost competitiveness, and adapt to global challenges — from climate change to food security — through science, innovation, and international cooperation.
