A meeting with members of the Senate of the French Parliament, representing the “France–Central Asia” Friendship Group, was held at the Embassy of Kazakhstan in France. The discussion focused on the constitutional reforms currently underway in Kazakhstan, DKNews.kz reports.
What Kazakhstan presented
Ambassador of Kazakhstan to France Gulsara Arystankulova briefed the French senators on the constitutional reform announced by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at the Fifth Session of the National Kurultai.

The conversation centered on key initiatives aimed at modernizing the country’s political system, including:
- the transition to a unicameral parliament;
- the introduction of the post of Vice President;
- the establishment of the “Halyk Kenesi” (People’s Council) as a new institution of public participation.
According to the Ambassador, these reforms are designed to improve the efficiency of governance and strengthen dialogue between the state and society.
How French senators responded
Members of the French Senate described the proposed reforms as ambitious and forward-looking. They emphasized that such changes are important for Kazakhstan’s long-term sustainable development and political stability.
French parliamentarians also expressed strong interest in further strengthening interparliamentary dialogue, noting the value of direct engagement between legislative bodies.

Kazakhstan under European attention
During the meeting, senators stressed that they attach great importance to the political reforms and socio-political processes taking place in Kazakhstan. They noted that they closely monitor the implementation of the country’s strategic development priorities and innovative political initiatives.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides highlighted the dynamic development of Kazakh–French relations and reaffirmed their readiness to continue constructive cooperation.
Particular emphasis was placed on the role of the “France–Central Asia” Friendship Group as an effective platform for sustained dialogue and exchange of views.
The meeting in Paris demonstrated that Kazakhstan’s reform agenda is attracting growing attention in Europe and is viewed as a key element of the country’s political modernization and international engagement.
