Kazakhstan and Sweden held the fifth round of political consultations in Astana, focusing on strengthening bilateral dialogue and expanding cooperation across key sectors, DKNews.kz reports.
The meeting brought together senior officials from the foreign ministries of both countries.
High-level delegations lead talks
The consultations were headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Arman Issetov and Sweden’s Director-General for Political Affairs Torbjörn Sohlström.
During the discussions, the sides conducted a detailed exchange on current priorities and future cooperation prospects.
Key areas of cooperation
The talks covered a broad agenda reflecting the growing partnership between the two countries.
Main topics included:
- Development of political dialogue.
- Expansion of trade, economic and investment cooperation.
- Strengthening cultural and humanitarian ties.
Officials emphasized the importance of maintaining regular diplomatic engagement to support long-term relations.

Focus on EU partnership
Particular attention was given to Kazakhstan’s cooperation with the European Union.
The parties reaffirmed their interest in:
- Deepening Kazakhstan–EU partnership.
- Effective implementation of the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement.
- Expanding cooperation within international organizations.
They also exchanged views on regional and global issues.
Growing trade and investment ties
Economic cooperation remains a key pillar of Kazakhstan–Sweden relations.
According to Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry:
- Bilateral trade reached $361.6 million in 2025, up 10.4%.
- Kazakhstan exported $75.9 million worth of goods to Sweden.
- Imports from Sweden totaled $285.6 million.
Over the long term, Swedish investment in Kazakhstan has remained steady.
Between 2005 and 2025, the gross inflow of foreign direct investment from Sweden exceeded $690 million.
Commitment to continued dialogue
Following the consultations, both sides expressed readiness to further strengthen political dialogue and expand cooperation across multiple areas.
Observers note that regular consultations play an important role in maintaining stable relations between Kazakhstan and European partners.
