Gender equality, human rights, justice and responsibility remain key principles guiding Kazakhstan’s national policy and ongoing reforms, DKNews.kz reports.
This message was delivered by the Kazakh delegation during a high-level event attended by UNESCO member states and the organization’s leadership. The meeting was held in New York to mark International Women’s Day and the 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women.

UNESCO emphasizes global commitment to gender equality
During the event, UNESCO Director-General Khaled El-Enany outlined the organization’s efforts to promote gender equality across education, science and cultural policy.
The discussions focused on strengthening international cooperation aimed at expanding opportunities for women and ensuring equal participation in key areas of development.

Kazakhstan shares national experience
Permanent Delegate of Kazakhstan to UNESCO Ambassador Askar Abdrakhmanov presented the country’s experience in advancing gender equality and strengthening the role of women in public life.

He highlighted Kazakhstan’s progress in supporting women’s participation in:
- education
- science and innovation
- entrepreneurship
- public administration
The diplomat also noted the importance of expanding women’s involvement in the rapidly developing fields of digital technologies and artificial intelligence.
Key indicators of women’s participation
Kazakhstan presented several indicators demonstrating the active role of women in the country’s economic and social development.
Among the key figures highlighted were:
- women account for 52.5 percent of university students
- women own more than 48 percent of small and medium-sized enterprises
- women represent 55.8 percent of civil service personnel
In addition, Kazakhstan is implementing programs to support women in STEM fields and to address discrimination in the digital environment and judicial processes.
Regional platforms for dialogue and cooperation
“Kazakhstan is firmly committed to UNESCO’s global priority of gender equality. In its turn, the UN Regional Centre for the Sustainable Development Goals for Central Asia and Afghanistan, as well as the UNESCO Almaty Office’s projects serve as a useful platform for regional dialogue and cooperation in this important area,” said Ambassador Abdrakhmanov.
These initiatives help strengthen regional collaboration and promote inclusive development across Central Asia and beyond.
Commitment to global efforts
Concluding his remarks, the Kazakh diplomat reaffirmed the country’s readiness to support international initiatives aimed at eliminating gender inequality.
Kazakhstan continues to participate actively in global dialogue and cooperative efforts designed to ensure equal opportunities for women in all spheres of public life.
