Kazakhstan and Brazil intend to expand cooperation in key areas

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has received Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira in Astana, with the sides discussing prospects for expanding political, economic and strategic cooperation, DKNews.kz reports.

The meeting highlighted Kazakhstan’s growing interest in strengthening ties with Latin America’s largest economy.

Brazil called key partner in Latin America

During the talks, President Tokayev emphasized the importance of relations with Brazil.

“I am confident that your visit to Kazakhstan is both timely and significant, and will give a strong impetus to the strengthening of bilateral relations. I would like to note with satisfaction the steady development of multifaceted cooperation between our countries. A large delegation of business representatives has arrived with you, which demonstrates serious intentions and a responsible approach toward cooperation with Kazakhstan,” the President said.

The Head of State also conveyed greetings to Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and invited him to visit Kazakhstan.

Brazil signals interest in deeper cooperation

Mauro Vieira said he arrived in Kazakhstan on the personal instructions of the Brazilian president.

According to the Brazilian side, the two countries have significant potential to expand cooperation in:

  • politics
  • trade and economy
  • culture
  • humanitarian relations

The presence of a large business delegation also highlighted growing interest in practical economic projects.

Energy, AI and industry among priorities

The interlocutors discussed cooperation in several strategic sectors.

Among the key areas:

  • energy
  • mining and metallurgy
  • agriculture
  • innovation
  • artificial intelligence

These sectors are increasingly important for Kazakhstan’s economic diversification and international partnerships.

Focus on nuclear security and international agenda

Special attention during the talks was given to international security issues.

The sides discussed:

  • nuclear disarmament
  • non-proliferation
  • reform of the United Nations
  • the Iranian nuclear program

President Tokayev reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s commitment to the peaceful use of nuclear energy under International Atomic Energy Agency safeguards.

Kazakhstan highlights role in non-proliferation

It was noted during the meeting that Kazakhstan has earned broad international trust in the field of nuclear non-proliferation.

The country also hosts the world’s only IAEA Low Enriched Uranium Bank.

Officials emphasized that Kazakhstan possesses:

  • relevant infrastructure
  • scientific expertise
  • technical capabilities for safe handling of sensitive nuclear materials

Kazakhstan offers support on Iranian nuclear issue

President Tokayev also expressed Kazakhstan’s readiness to assist international efforts related to the Iranian nuclear program.

“The Head of State expressed Kazakhstan’s readiness, as a gesture of goodwill, to facilitate the resolution of issues related to the Iranian nuclear program should relevant international agreements be reached and the matter move into a practical phase.”
