Kazakhstan may host Central Asia’s first UNESCO-backed AI center

Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Slovenia Altay Abibullayev met with Mitja Jermol, Director of the Open Educational Resources and Open Learning Department at the International Research Centre on Artificial Intelligence (IRCAI), DKNews.kz reports.

The meeting focused on prospects for expanding cooperation between Kazakhstan, Slovenia, UNESCO and international institutions working in the fields of artificial intelligence, digital transformation, open education and sustainable development.

Kazakhstan considered a promising AI partner in Central Asia

During the discussions, IRCAI representatives presented the center’s activities and highlighted Kazakhstan’s strong potential to host the first International Research Center on Artificial Intelligence in Central Asia under the auspices of UNESCO.

According to the center, similar institutions already operate with IRCAI’s support in Saudi Arabia and Morocco.

IRCAI representatives noted that Kazakhstan is viewed as one of the most promising partners in Central Asia in the field of artificial intelligence and digital transformation.

Kazakhstan showcases national AI initiatives

Ambassador Altay Abibullayev presented information about Kazakhstan’s major digital and innovation initiatives.

Among the topics discussed were:

  • Astana Hub
  • Alem AI
  • Government for Citizens initiatives
  • outcomes of GITEX events in Almaty
  • national policies on artificial intelligence and digital transformation
  • activities within the framework of the declared Year of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technologies

The Kazakh side also outlined efforts aimed at strengthening the country’s technological ecosystem and developing innovation-driven economic growth.

International experts praise Kazakhstan’s progress

Representatives of the International Research Centre on Artificial Intelligence positively assessed Kazakhstan’s achievements in digitalization and AI development.

The center highlighted the country’s extensive implementation of digital public services and noted Kazakhstan’s position among the world’s leading countries in the adoption of artificial intelligence technologies.

Participants also discussed plans for the development of Alatau City as a future technology and innovation hub designed to attract investment, talent and advanced technological projects.

Invitation to global AI Olympiad

During the meeting, IRCAI invited Kazakhstan to participate in an international Artificial Intelligence Olympiad.

The competition is considered a global platform for young AI specialists, providing opportunities to exchange knowledge, showcase innovations and strengthen international cooperation in the field of emerging technologies.
